#traveldiaries I recently visited Macao and thought I would share my experience Day 1 - the airport the is very close to the hotels making it easy to get a taxi there. All of the hotels have shopping malls and other amenities there so we stayed inside and went to the cinema! Day 2 - we visited the ancient ruins of St Paul’s cathedral and the historic centre of Macao. It is very easy to navigate and people speak English, Portuguese and Mandarin making it very visitor friendly. In the evening, we visited the casino strip that has famous hotels such as The Venetian. Day 3 - we headed down to Blaksands beach and tried some local Portuguese food which was fantastic. Overall, it is a very easy place to navigate and there are lots of different hotels ranging from 5 star hotels to hostels. There are also different food options that incorporate the history of Macao and there is also great shopping opportunities there too

It's very cool inside when you step in. 🔸St. Lorenz Church, St. Lorenz Church The St. Lawrence Church is the most beautiful, with many chandeliers and stained glass windows. I stumbled across this new shop on Gaoyuan Street (bus turning point) behind the Ruins of St. Paul's. The words on the window looked very interesting, so I went in to try it out. For $20, I could choose four mini taiyaki with four different flavors. It was quite interesting, and there were so many types of drinks! It was my first time in Macau, and the city had a more European feel than I expected. I was enveloped in a strange feeling, as if Portugal had suddenly appeared in China. First we headed to the Ruins of St. Paul's, said to be the symbol of Macau. The majestic stone facade was so beautiful that it felt like I was in a painting, and I took many photos. We continued down the slope and arrived at Senado Square. Just walking through the square, with its mosaic-patterned cobblestones and colorful buildings, made our hearts leap. On the way, we bought freshly baked egg tarts at a popular egg tart specialty store. With one bite, the outside was crispy and the inside was creamy and sweet, filling our mouths. It was more delicious than any egg tart we had ever eaten, and we ended up having a second helping. For lunch, we had Macanese cuisine at a local restaurant. I had never tried any of the dishes before, such as Portuguese chicken rice and stewed dishes with added spices, but there was something nostalgic about them. The food culture, a mix of Chinese and European culture, was also full of Macau's unique character. In the afternoon, I took a trip to the Taipa Coloane district and strolled through the streets lined with pastel-colored buildings. Tourists were leisurely spending their time here, and I almost lost track of time. Finally, I got some takeout egg tarts from Margaret Cafe before returning to the port. It was only a short time, but it was a very satisfying day trip, where I was able to experience Macau's history, food, and the beauty of its streets.

When talking about Macau, many people think of casinos, the Ruins of St. Paul's, or the Venetian. Today, I want to share my experience from my first trip to Macau. First up is the "Macau Tower." This attraction offers views of Macau's three cross-sea bridges, and for those who love extreme sports, you can try bungee jumping here. However, since it closes around 6 PM, you won't be able to see the night view. I bought my ticket from a website, bundled with the figure-eight Ferris wheel ride ticket, which was cheaper than buying on-site. Next is the Ruins of St. Paul's area. I was lucky this time to capture a photo of the Ruins of St. Paul's under maintenance. They thoughtfully placed a curtain so that people taking photos from afar wouldn't notice anything unusual. Then there's the Cotai area. This district is mainly home to major casinos, the airport, and hotels. I was originally looking forward to visiting the "Taipa Grande Viewpoint" near Rua do Cunha, but due to rain, the slope elevator was out of service, so I regrettably missed the view from the top. However, based on the information I found, the viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the entire Cotai area. On the way from the Taipa Grande Viewpoint to Rua do Cunha, you'll pass by the "Taipa Houses-Museum," a row of beautiful Portuguese-style buildings. The rainy, misty atmosphere made it feel like I was in Europe. Speaking of "Rua do Cunha," many people know it for its abundance of food options. I tried a few places and found that many felt like chain stores. The prices weren't cheap, but you can find almost all the local delicacies you want to try in Macau, and the quality is quite consistent. Finally, there are the major "themed casinos," such as The Parisian, The Venetian, and The Londoner. The architecture there is truly magnificent and massive. I recommend visiting these places before leaving Macau. Whether you're looking to shop or just explore, you'll have a great time. You can also take a ride on the figure-eight Ferris wheel to enjoy the view. I suggest buying tickets online in advance, as it's cheaper, and you can even book afternoon tea packages online.

While traveling in Hong Kong, I took a day trip to Macau. Macau's city centre is so historic that it has been designated a World Heritage Site. Once you step inside, you'll find yourself in a slightly different world from Hong Kong. In addition to flights, ferries depart from Hong Kong. The journey takes about an hour each way. I spent half a day sightseeing. Macau's colourful buildings have a European feel to them. The brightly coloured buildings are uplifting and you can take lots of great photos. I tried the famous egg tarts and chicken. The view from the high ground is unforgettably beautiful. It's a place that can be fully enjoyed even on a day trip.

It was day two of our trip in Hong Kong and a trip to Macao was for the books. If you ever thought a city could imitate another city and perfect it? Well you thought right because Macau did just that with many of the tourist sights that we love to visit and see in Europe? You could call it a little Europe in Asia. We took the Cotai ferry from SheungShui in Hong Kong which cost only 175yuan for single trip. The ride it self is an hour long and can be uncomfortable for those prone to being sea sick, I’d recommend chewing some gum while on the ferry. The immigration doesn’t take long so you get to see the region and city as quick as you’d love to. The taxi ride from the port to the other parts of the city and region is pretty easy and they use their own currency however you are able to use the Hong Kong dollar as well as the Chinese yuan if you don’t have their currency. The city has so devil sights, such as the Eiffel Tower, the Big Ben, St. Paul’s cathedral and many other European city sights. In the past 10+ years, I have been to Macau 5 times. Most of the time, it was a quick "stopover", only the trip at the end of 2019 allowed me to wander around for a few days. November and December are the best times to visit Macau, with just the right temperature and humidity! Not far north of the Metropark Hotel where I stayed at the time is "Guia Fortress". Starting from the hotel, I walked across a pedestrian overpass and hiked up the hill along the "Guia Hill Fitness Trail". (You can also choose to take the cable car in the nearby Flora Garden) A gentle breeze brushed my face, and local friends running passed by along the way. When travel has long become a "seasoning" deeply rooted in people's hearts, not a "luxury", the best way to travel is no longer rushing between attractions to check in, but to blend into the environment and experience life as a "local". ♦️Guia Fortress, also known as Songshan Fortress, is located at the summit of Guia Hill, the highest point on the Macau Peninsula, overlooking the entire peninsula. It is one of the Eight Views of Macau, "Lighthouse and Pine Waves". Guia Fortress includes Guia Fortress, the Chapel of Our Lady of Guia, and Guia Lighthouse. On July 15, 2005, as part of the Historic Centre of Macau, it was inscribed on the World Heritage List. ♦️Guia Fortress was built in 1622, expanded and renovated in 1637, and completed in 1638. It includes guardhouses, a powder magazine, a tower, etc. Since then, the fortress has always been designated as a military restricted area, and outsiders were not allowed to enter without permission. It was only open to the public on August 5th for the Feast of Our Lady and on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month for the Chong Yang Festival. In 1976, after the Portuguese army withdrew from Macau, the fortress was opened as a tourist spot and still maintains its original appearance to this day. ♦️Guia Lighthouse was built in 1865 and is the first modern lighthouse on the Chinese coast.
