While traveling on Amami Oshima, I came across a restaurant with an intriguing name, so I stopped in for lunch. This "Shima Tofu-ya" is a tofu shop that makes the island tofu that is distributed on Amami Oshima. It's so popular with locals and tourists alike that it fills up as soon as it opens. Of course, there was a wait, and we waited for over an hour, but the amazing taste and volume made it a delicious lunch that was worth waiting in line for. Even more surprising was the reasonable price, with a set meal that was so big you couldn't finish it for 1,300 yen. You'll definitely have to queue, so make sure you arrive with plenty of time, but it's a famous restaurant that you should definitely visit. Heart Rock is a heart-shaped tide pool that appears only at low tide on the coast near the village of Akaogi. It's famous as a power spot for love. Kasen Pass is a spectacular viewpoint in the mountains where you can see the East China Sea on the left and the Pacific Ocean on the right. *I thought it was Kashiken, but "Kaseken" is correct. The Tatsugo Town website states Kaseken Hill, and when I asked the town hall, they said it was "Kaseken". Name: Kasen Pass (a hill where you can see two seas) Location: Akaogi, Tatsugo Town, Oshima District, Kagoshima Prefecture Access: About 35 minutes by car from Amami Airport Parking: Yes The directions were easy to understand when I looked at the Tatsugo Town website. Heart Rock is a spot you can't miss when you come to Amami Oshima 🥰 A rock carved into a heart shape that appears at low tide. SUNTOKU CAFE is a cafe where you can enjoy lunch, sweets, and alcohol along with home-roasted coffee. Yumeori no Sato, located in Tatsugo-cho, Amami Oshima, Kagoshima Prefecture, is an experiential theme park operated by a weaver of authentic Amami Oshima Tsumugi. Here, you can not only observe the entire process of Oshima Tsumugi, from designing to dyeing and weaving, but you can also actually experience it. The place where I stayed for 2 nights and 3 days is conveniently located just 2 minutes walk from a private beach! Moreover, it just opened in 2024, and the rooms are clean. The room I stayed in had a living room in the center and bedrooms on the left and right, so it was perfect for a group! Hotel I stayed at during my stay on Amami Oshima [MIRU AMAMI] The room I stayed in was a private villa with a pool. The pool and balcony of the room had a view of the ocean, creating a luxurious space. I loved this room so much that I ordered some island food to go and had a relaxing girl's talk in my room. The food at the restaurant [AMANARI] attached to the hotel was also amazing. For dinner, we had a course menu made with plenty of seafood and mountain produce from Amami Oshima. For breakfast, you can choose between Japanese and Western dishes and enjoy the taste of Amami. Each dish was carefully prepared, so I was able to feel the atmosphere of Amami Oshima just by eating. And for lunch, we went to [AMANARI]. The terrace seats at the restaurant are definitely recommended! Other room types include ocean villas and hillside villas, and it's nice that they take you to your room in a cart from the front desk. You can also go down the stairs to the beach. I was very satisfied to be able to spend a relaxing and private island time at MIRU AMAMI!
