In mid-May, the vast hill is covered with pink flowers, and the pink torii gate (Photo 1) is particularly famous. I went there for the first time in 2022, but the flowers were damaged by the drought and extreme heat of the previous summer, so the moss phlox bloomed sparsely. So I went back in 2023 and this time I was able to see a perfect view! As expected of Hokkaido, this is the first time I've seen such a large-scale moss phlox park! I was impressed. The stairs below the pink torii gate are long and steep, so it's quite difficult if you hurry up (Photo 2). It's not a straight road, and there are several places where you can deviate from the path along the way, so I decided to go for a bit (Photo 3). It felt like I was walking along a moss phlox path in the forest, which was nice...and then I happened to encounter a wild rabbit! (Photo 4) Photo 5 shows the view when you look back, and you can see the cow, the symbol of this park, in the upper right. I climbed the stairs under the torii gate again (Photo 6). There was still a long way to go to the top! After somehow climbing the stairs, I found Yamatsumi Shrine (Photo 7). Right next to the shrine is a great spot where you can see the whole of Shibazakura Park (Photo 8). The promenade continues to the edge of the park from there, so I decided to walk to the cow mark (Photo 9). As I walked, I noticed how the yellow dandelion flowers were a beautiful accent (Photo 10), and how some parts looked a bit like a heart shape (Photo 11), and I reached a point that was probably around the cow mark (Photo 12). I was so close that I couldn't even tell where the cow was, but the sight of the wide hill covered in a pink carpet was spectacular. #DomesticTrip

Picture doesnt do justice to how beautifully the pink moss had grew over the whole area! Shibazakura, also known as moss phlox, is the representative flower of Spring in Hokkaido. Higashimokoto Shibazakura Park is one of the most well-known places for shibazakura in the whole prefecture! The ten-hectare park is painted with the most glorious pink and white colors from early May to early June. At the top of the hill is an observatory from which to take stunning photographs of the picturesque landscape. Weather is perfect during this period too.. If you are scare of the cold winter in Hokkaido, I would recommend you to come during this period thats the best weather you can get! Neither too cold nor too hot! Is also stunning to have a sea of pink flowers.. magnificent and pleasure to the eyes.. You can also have a taste of the ice cream made from shibazakura. #hokkaido

Higashimokoto Shibazakura Park in Hokkaido, Japan, is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot where visitors can admire the pink hillsides covered with shibazakura flowers. I finally made it to Higashimokoto Shibazakura Park in Abashiri! This pink flower field started with a handful of moss phlox plants planted by a farmer in 1977 and now covers an area of ​​10 hectares✨ The pink is so cute! ⁡ Maybe it was because there was a rain forecast, but there weren't many people around, so yay for the sunny weather🙌 That said, I had to wait two hours for the people to completely disappear before I could take this photo😂 But it was worth the wait, and I'm satisfied with the spectacular view. #springblossom Went here during May, peak blossom. It does look like moss from far and like a carpet too. There are plenty of photo spots and some eateries selling ice creams and fast foods. If you have problems walking, there is a mini bus service going around the park. The driver will drive very slowly so you can take pictures with ease and enjoy the view. We didn't have enough time to explore every inch of the park because of tight schedule. Maybe next time. Highly recommend if northern Hokkaido is part of your plan. From Sapporo will take about 4-6h. So it won't be a day trip.
