The Snow of Hida Takayama!!
The snowy old streets and the world heritage site 'Shirakawa-go' with its thatched-roof houses covered in white are iconic winter scenes of Hida. Although summer is bustling with tourists, the best season to fully enjoy the beauty of Hida is actually from now on!
Shirakawa-go, with its thatched-roof houses registered as a world heritage site, is a popular tourist spot. In winter, when the thatched-roof houses are covered in snow, you can feel the grandeur of nature even more. There are plenty of highlights, such as strolling through the 'Mitsugo no Gassho-zukuri' and 'Myosenji' temple, which was also featured in the year-end TV program 'Yuku Toshi Kuru Toshi,' and exploring the interiors of the thatched-roof houses.
Hida Folk Village is an open-air museum that recreates the old lifestyle of Hida by relocating old buildings from various parts of Hida to the hilly area in the western part of Takayama city. Opened in 1971, over 40 years have passed since its opening, and the relocated buildings blend so well with the landscape that it feels as if they have been there from the beginning, spreading the traditional rural scenery of Japan.
