This museum is an amazing place with beautiful views and monuments. It is an incredible place and worthy of visiting. Traveling across the Eurasian continent, from Abu Dhabi, UAE to Baku, Azerbaijan, my main purpose was to see Zaha Hadid's work, the Heydar Aliyev Center, a landmark building in Azerbaijan. 🌸 Transportation I stayed near the Old City, and the subway goes directly to the Heydar Aliyev Center. 🌸 Photography The building is very photogenic, and I found many good spots for photos. Zaha Hadid is really amazing, and the building is stunning. It looks good from any angle. 🌸 Exhibition The exhibition mainly features works by Azerbaijani artists, but on the day I went, there were important visitors from other countries, so the exhibition was closed to the public. It was a pity that I couldn't go inside. 🌸 Tickets You can buy tickets on site. The exhibition is closed on Mondays.

Being there was like stepping into another world, one where art and architecture blend seamlessly. Zaha Hadid’s design is even more breathtaking in person than in photos. Foreword As I write these words, Azerbaijan and Armenia have just ended another brief Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and the three countries of Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan in the South Caucasus or Outer Caucasus region have a complicated love-hate relationship that has lasted for thousands of years. This region south of the Caucasus Mountains, east of the Caspian Sea, and west of the Black Sea, is located at the junction of Europe and Asia. Historically, the South Caucasus was ruled by the Persian Empire, the Byzantine Empire, the Arab Empire, and the Ottoman Empire, and was later incorporated into the territory of Tsarist Russia, becoming part of the Soviet Union. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in the 1990s, the three countries became independent, and it has been just over 30 years. Although they are three countries, the total area of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia is about the same as that of Hebei Province in China, and the total population of the three countries is only about 1/5 of Hebei Province. Only Azerbaijan has a population of over 10 million, and the other two countries have a population of about 3 million, mostly concentrated in their respective capitals. The Nagorno-Karabakh dispute between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the disputes between Georgia and North Russia over South Ossetia and Abkhazia, make this small region extremely complex. And this is the heartland of the Eurasian continent, where different civilizations and religions blend. The majestic mountains, deep canyons, ancient churches, old cities, quiet towns, and winding coastlines all come into your view here. The people strolling leisurely by the Caspian Sea in Baku in the evening, and the musicians and passers-by dancing and singing in Tbilisi at night, are all showing you the calm and passion from the Caucasus. Our journey begins from here, from the Caspian Sea in Azerbaijan to the Kura River flowing through Tbilisi, crossing the mountains and valleys of the Caucasus, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia, which we could not visit due to time constraints. The Caspian Sea is actually not a 'sea', but the largest lake in the world. However, the area of the Caspian Sea, which is 370,000 square kilometers, is actually larger than many of the world's seas. Geographically, the Caspian Sea is part of the ancient Mediterranean Sea. The Caspian Sea is a place where locals usually walk and relax. It's very comfortable to feel the autumn breeze here. The vast Caspian Sea has given Azerbaijan rich oil and gas resources. From the plane flying over the Caspian Sea, you can see many drilling rigs in the Caspian Sea. Before the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Azerbaijan and Russia were the only two member republics that did not need central financial subsidies. The local wealth is evident. Among the three countries in the South Caucasus, Azerbaijan's economic strength is also the best. The world's first oil well, Azerbaijan is the birthplace of the modern oil industry. The villas and small buildings on the top of the mountain are said to be built by local rich people. I’m absolutely in architecture so I couldn’t pass by one of my favourite architects Zaha Hadid and her breathtaking Heydar Aliyev Center. This masterpiece of her is amazing by itself so if you don’t wanna go inside, outside not less gorgeous. But i will recommend to visit it inside too, these forms, lines, materials, lights are beautiful. I was there in april 2023 the entrance for foreigners cost 15 manat as most of museums. They have beautiful exhibitions there, the way everything is arranged is great. You can find a caffe at ground floor and just enjoy the place you are in. Architecture and urban planning in Baku reflect the legacy of the Soviet Union, which Azerbaijan belonged to until 1991. Since independence, the country’s government has invested in modernizing the city’s infrastructures. The new Heydar Aliyev Center is part and parcel of this urban renewal and aspires to become the main impulse of cultural programs in the region at large. With its dominant undulating forms, the design of the building breaks with the rigid and monumental Soviet architecture typical of Azerbaijan’s capital, to draw inspiration from aspects of Azeri culture, such as, for example, the geometry of its calligraphy. It thus has a succession of curves sending a message of optimism and progress to a nation steep in the process of development. With the intention of creating a fluid space in the entire project, a square takes in the building to stretch on and become a spacious public foyer, which, in turn, welcomes visitors and spreads them out within the over 100,000 square meters of the program dominated by an auditorium and a museum. Digital tools were used to materialize the complex volumetric scheme, making it possible not only to systematize manufacturing processes but also to monitor the whole evolution of the work. The large column-free space, spiraling upward structure, continuous surface makes it completely different from every angle. This is the cultural center of Heydar Aliyev.
