Hallasan National Park @ Jeju 🇰🇷

Hiking Hallasan National Park in Jeju is an incredible experience, offering diverse trails that cater to different fitness levels.
The Seongpanak Trail, one of the most popular routes, stretches 9.7 km and is relatively gentle, making it accessible for most hikers. Along the way, there are several rest areas and breathtaking views of Jeju Island from various platforms. Alternatively, the Yeongsil Trail is shorter at 5.8 km, featuring scenic ridges and waterfalls.
Whichever trail you choose, the stunning natural beauty and well-maintained paths make Hallasan a must-visit for outdoor enthusiasts. Highly recommended not for the faint hearted!
My rating: 4 ⭐️ out of 5!

The hike was truly remarkable, albeit somewhat taxing. I highly recommend embarking before 10 am to prevent the need for hurried ascent, as we experienced. The summit boasted awe-inspiring vistas, and it's advisable to pack some provisions to savor alongside the scenery. Consider reserving this itinerary for the final day of your journey, as it promises to be quite exhausting and necessitate ample recovery time.

Come to Jeju Island and climb a not high but absolutely scenic mountain
Taking advantage of the strong autumn colors, I recently took a friend who just came to Jeju Island to Songyue Mountain again.
Rather than climbing the mountain, it's more accurate to say walking the mountain.
Located in the west of Jeju Island, Songyue Mountain is a part of the occasional path. The entrance is a big slope directly to the mountainside, and what suddenly appears in front of you is the vast sea and the nearby Shanfang Mountain.
This is an occasional road along the coastline with a very wide view. You can see Shanfang Mountain and Brother Island at the same time. When the weather is good, you can also overlook Hannashan Mountain.
The first half of the Songyue Mountain hike is almost the grandeur of the invincible sea view, and the second half enters the pine forest style. There are purple flowers and honeysuckle that have not ended in summer on the side of the plank road. The white horses, sea women and anglers on the cliffs seen along the way must be the most authentic scenery of Jeju Island.
The whole journey takes about 2 hours. Free and no tickets. After climbing the mountain, you can rest at the busy Starbucks at the foot of the mountain, and continue along the coastline, you can reach a very popular hot restaurant. See the restaurant introduction in yesterday's blog post.

Hallasan in Autumn
Fancy a one-day hiking challenge? Try hiking Hallasan on Jeju Island. The round trip will take around 10 hours if you are a non-hiker, so start early and wear a pair of good shoes that protect your ankle. The path is mostly rocky and steps can be very steep. The views at the summit are breathtaking, but be prepared to queue for a proof-shot for the certificate of completion. Remember to book your slot if you plan to reach the summit!#hallasan #bucketlistreboot

a "UNESCO" hiking trip
#gohiking
The Hallasan National Park is UNESCO recognized, and Hallasan Mountain is the highest point in South Korea, and its volcanic activity millions of years ago is what created Jeju Island. It now stands tall and dormant at the heart of Jeju.
A must-do when visiting Jeju, and it will likely take the whole day to climb and enjoy the sights. It is recommended to bring sufficient water and food for pit stops along the way. Rest and relax at the resting point, but do take note of the time as there is cut-off time to be aware of. So check it out before you start ascending.

South Korean tallest mountain
This is for those who like adventure..😉 Few weeks ago, I had a chance to climb Hallasan in Jeju-do which is South Korea tallest mountain. There is two trail that will reach the summit and Baengnokdam Lake, which is Gwaneusma trail and Seongpanak trail. I am lucky to be able to experienced both trail. I went up from Gwaneusma (steep and hard according to local, but for me it was ok) and went down via Seongpanak (easy trail). Most local prefer the other way round and that makes the trail more crowded. That’s why i choose to hike from Gwaneusma and go down via Seongpanak. The whole hike takes about 7 hours. But it depends on one’s fitness. How to get there? I stayed in Seogwipo, so took bus no 281 to Jeju international university and then took bus no 475 to Gwaneusma head trail. Taxi are very expensive in Jeju. So the most affordable transportation is the bus. You can also take a taxi from Jeju international university to Gwaneusma head trail (KRW6500).
For my next trip, i wish i can take my son to London to see Harry Potter film site #2023TravelWish

Jeju Island Scenery
As the largest island in South Korea, Jeju Island was originally an active volcanic island. Over hundreds of thousands of years, the accumulation of lava, erosion by seawater, and the movement of the earth's crust have created a diverse landscape on the island.
Caves, mountains, waterfalls, scattered small islands, and over 2,000 species of plants and more than 4,000 species of animals living there, all can be found.
Among them, the most famous landmark is Hallasan, which stands in the center of Jeju Island.
About 300,000 years ago, the long-dormant volcano of Jeju Island erupted again, and the accumulated lava, weathered over time, formed Hallasan with an altitude of 1,950 meters.
In Korean, Hallasan means "a mountain high enough to pull down the Milky Way." Although it may seem like self-praise to outsiders, considering it is the highest peak in South Korea, Hallasan truly lives up to its name.
Jeju Island, with its subtropical oceanic climate, is warm and spring-like all year round, and Hallasan is picturesque in all four seasons, offering endless beauty.
In early spring, the mountain top is covered with snow, the rapeseed flowers sway in the wind at the mountainside, and the cherry blossoms at the foot of the mountain are as numerous as stars; in midsummer, the deep valleys have rushing waterfalls, birds sing melodiously among the lush greenery, making it a perfect natural summer resort; in late autumn, red leaves cover the valleys, and deer leap across the ridges; in severe winter, heavy snow falls, white plum blossoms bloom on the mottled branches, and wild deer leisurely walk under the trees, making one feel as if they have entered a paradise.

When in Jeju, don’t miss this Mountain
Hiking Mount Hallasan, South Korea’s highest mountain.
We took the more scenic Yeongsil Trail (5.8km) which is at least a 2.5 hours hike up and another 2.5 hours down. While we went during summer, Hallasan is popular for its fall colours. So be sure to check it out if you’re heading to Jeju during autumn.
At the base is a forest trail with a gradual ascent up until you reach Byeongpungbawi Rock. Here be careful of the rocks when you climb the wooden steps as there are only ropes for support on the side. It is relatively easier to walk as you reach the top with a flat boardwalk that leads you to Witse Oreum.
Remember to bring a UV jacket and proper gear as it get cold even during summer.

#koreatrip We took the easiest trail to just try it out and it was quite tough, admittedly, but we made it to the top! We were lucky the weather was really good in the morning and there was no one at the peak when we made it up. The view was nice and there was some areas with the pillars that provide a QR code for emergency calls in case you need help. Try going earlier in the morning to try and catch the nice view of the sun. It was slightly drizzling so we caught a mini rainbow! Admission is free and there is even a phototaking booth in the visitor's centre if you would like to take a photo for memories after your climb. Photo is 2,000 KRW per printed photo, and the instructions are all in Korean, Japanese, English and Chinese so there's no need to worry about not understanding how to use the booth. There are also some signages which introduce the names of the flora and fauna and if you're lucky you might catch a glimpse of the animals that live in the mountain. Unfortunately for us, that didn't happen but the view was so worth the climb up. It may be tedious for those who aren't able to climb too much stairs so maybe bring along a pair of walking/climbing sticks to help you get to the peak easily. Ground may be wet and muddy so be careful!

Mount Hallasan, South Korea's highest peak (a paradise for hiking and trekking enthusiasts)
Mount Hallasan is located in the center of Jeju Island, with an altitude of 1950 meters, extending from east to west. The southern side of the mountain is steep while the northern side is gentle. At the summit lies Baengnokdam, a crater lake formed by volcanic eruption. It is the highest mountain in South Korea. This dormant volcano boasts a unique and spectacular landscape, with thousands of species of flora and fauna vertically distributed from subtropical to alpine zones, making it a kingdom of ecology.
Mount Hallasan was designated as a national park in 1970 and was listed as a World Natural Heritage site in 2007. Since there is no cable car, the only way to explore Mount Hallasan is by hiking. There are numerous hiking trails on Mount Hallasan, with Eorimok being the easiest among several routes, but only Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa trails can reach the summit, Baengnokdam. All the one-way hiking trails on Mount Hallasan are less than 10 kilometers, allowing for a round trip within a day. Spring and autumn are the peak tourist seasons for Mount Hallasan, but in fact, from the rhododendron sea in spring, green forests and streams in summer, to the red leaves covering the mountains in autumn and the vast snowfields in winter, there are beautiful scenes all year round.
If you climb Mount Hallasan in winter, especially after snowfall, it is recommended to wear professional mountaineering boots with crampons, otherwise, it can be quite dangerous when descending.

Scenic hike in Hallasan on Yeongsil trail 2 x
This is a trip in mid March just last week. We arrived at the car park at the beginning of the Yeongsil trail at about 8.30am to a beautiful sight. Light snow is falling down sparsely. We were both exhilarated and stressed at the same time since we didn’t quite expect such weather in Spring. We quickly bought raincoats from the shop at the trail head, get assurance that spikes are not required and get on our way.
The uphill trail started in the forest (though the trees were quite bald since winter is just over) before it opens up into an open air trail. When it opens up, the view is very beautiful.
All the way, the trail is clear and well paved. We just had to keep climbing steps uphill. It was a steep ascent throughout. There were a few stretch where we had to hike on rocks. But they are manageable though my hiking stick definitely helped.
Yeongsil trail does not lead you to the summit of Mt Hallasan. However it is renowned as the shortest yet the best one for its beautiful scenery among those of Hallasan Mountain. We took approximately 2 hour and 30 minutes to get to the end point which is a rest area and also a junction where you can decide on which route to go downhill. It was very cold at the rest point but there were a few shelters and we took our rest and snack there.
We took the same way down as we were too lazy to arrange/get transport from a different end point back to our car.
However, as weather changes were unpredictable in the mountains, the way down presented us with hiking in mist and much colder and stronger wind conditions which were surprising to us since that was near noon time. Going down was relatively easy in comparison. Think we took less than 2 hours.
If you plan to do this hike and is arriving by car, please remember there are two carparks. The 2nd one is the one nearest to the trail head. The first one is 2.4 km away from the 2nd one. And if you arrived too late, and the 2nd car park is full, they will not let you in until the next car comes out.

My Solo Jeju Winter Hike and City Trip
The highligh of this trip was the winter hike in Mt Hallasan one that you can take even if you are hiking solo. The view is amazing, you may hate the hike but you will forget everything once you’re up there. I took the yeongsil-eorimok trail.
Jeju is a safe island for female solo travellers. Highly recommended! Lots of cute cafes, you will never run out of caffeine fix, a heaven for coffee addict 😁 Even their convenience store got a lot of goodies to try. I stayed in 2 locations for my 6 days trip, first near the beach and 2nd was in the city area and it was a great decision. More time to explore the city by foot or by bus. They have very efficient transportation throughout the island although its less frequent when you are far out of the city but it is still manageable.
For transportation you can use kakaotalk or just use google map, bus options will be listed there with bus frequency and timing.
Hiking Mt Hallasan-You can take the bus but make sure to take the first trip as it is pretty crowded and you will be surprised that there’s a lot of hikers from young to old even in winter.
Visiting lighthouses and beaches:do check the weather prior to going out as it can get really windy by the seaside. Bringing poncho is much better than umbrella.
Popular places have long queues like london bagel museum so plan ahead. You dont wanna be stuck in one place for long hours and missed seing other places.
Jeju is a place I would love to visit again and again.

Winter in Jeju 🇰🇷
One of my bravest adventures I had. I thought I couldn’t make it coz it was too cold and I was alone but then some Koreans helped and guided me to go up! And, just liked that! I made it. You will never know unless you tried. 😉 #solotraveller #Winterinjeju

Jeju Island in South Korea is too suitable for vacation in all four seasons!
Jeju Island's climate is a temperate humid climate, that is, mild in winter and hot and rainy in summer. Spring and autumn are mild transition seasons, quite comfortable. Jeju Island has a large amount of rainfall throughout the year, so it is generally very humid. Winter is also humid and rainy, and snowfall is mainly concentrated on the top of Halla Mountain, with some light snow in low-altitude areas.
Spring (mid-March to June) on Jeju Island is sunny and the temperature is moderate and suitable. Although the temperature may take a few weeks to rise to a comfortable level, by mid-spring, winter coats can be completely put away.
With the warming weather, a large number of colorful and fragrant flowers also bloom, turning Jeju Island into a paradise of flowers.
Summer (July and August) on Jeju Island is hot and humid, apart from a few weeks of monsoon rain and occasional typhoons, summer days are bright and sunny. The hot and humid climate makes the sea and springs particularly attractive.
Fortunately, Jeju Island has a lot of sea and spring attractions. Jeju Island has the most beautiful beaches in the country, no matter where you are, you can always find a beach within a short distance.
Autumn (September to November) on Jeju Island is quite beautiful and is an ideal choice for romantics. As the heat of summer fades, the temperature becomes very pleasant and you can enjoy sunny and mild days.
Autumn is the best season to visit the iconic volcanic cones of Jeju Island, as many peaks are covered with swaying silver grass fields. Pink muhly grass is another grass that grows in autumn, and this fluffy pink plant has become a mainstream photo background.
❄️Jeju Island is a popular tourist destination even in winter (December to mid-March) because the temperature here is much milder than the mainland.
The winter on the island is distinct, but the temperature rarely drops below 0 degrees. Snowfall is mainly concentrated on the top of Halla Mountain, but there are still many winter activities to enjoy here.
Jeju Island is suitable for vacation all year round, REVE COUNTY is located at the southernmost point of Jeju Island, facing the sea and leaning against the mountains, it is really a rare property! Picture️!
Staying here for a while, you will feel relaxed! Vacation⛱️, investment are highly recommended!

Jeju Island Hallasan National Park is a very worthwhile attraction, here is a detailed guide:
1. Route selection: Hallasan National Park has multiple routes to choose from, among which the Seongpanak trail is a more suitable route for beginners. This route is moderately difficult and takes about 8 hours and 50 minutes for a round trip.
2. Equipment preparation: Mountaineering equipment does not need to be too professional, but it is recommended to wear suitable mountaineering shoes. If it is not summer, it is best to add crampons to increase slip resistance. Since it may be very cold at the top of the mountain, it is recommended to bring warm clothing.
3. Climbing time: Depending on the season, the climbing time is also different. The recommended start time for climbing in winter (November / December / January / February) is 9 am or earlier, in spring and autumn (March / April / September / October) it is 9:30 am or earlier, and in summer (May / June / July) it is 10 am or earlier. During the climbing process, you need to pass the triangle refuge within the specified time and descend from the peak.
4. Precautions: During the climbing process, safety needs to be paid attention to, especially on icy sections. Also, bring enough food and water, as well as rain gear and sun protection products.
5. Top scenery: Although the climbing process of Hallasan National Park may be a bit hard, the scenery after reaching the top is definitely worth it. At the top, you can enjoy the magnificent scenery of the entire Jeju Island, including volcanoes, oceans, and vast forests, etc. If you are lucky, you can also see precious flora and fauna.
6. Other attractions: In addition to Hallasan National Park, Jeju Island has many other worthwhile attractions, such as Nanta Show (Jeju Theater), Yongduam Rock, Jeju Ecoland Eco Theme Park, Baojian Road and Jeju Teddy Bear Museum, etc.
The above is a detailed guide to Jeju Island Hallasan National Park, I hope it can help you. I wish you a pleasant journey!
