Four Points by Sheraton Hakodate 2. Noboribetsu Sekisui Tei 3. Hotel Mercure Sapporo 4. Chitose Station Hotel Day 1: After arrived at the airport. We have a quick meal at the family mart and headed to Hakodate. 9:45am JR TRAIN to Sapporo → Hakodate stations 4 hours journey. - Checked in Hotel, late lunch at Lucky Pierrot Bay Area Main Shop ラッキーピエロ ベイエリア本店 and walked to Motomachi Park 元町公園, Old Public Hall of Hakodate Ward 旧函館区公会堂 (CLOSED, but see outside), Hachiman-saka Slope 八幡坂 (the slope see the view to the sea), Higashi Honganji Temple, Hakodate Russian Orthodox Church (use google maps, is walkable) - then to go up to Mt. Hakodate Observation Deck 函館山展望台 (Hakodate Night View) - round trip (Adults - 1280, Child - 640) Day 2 - - Visit the Hakodate Asaichi (Morning Market) 函館朝市 (Brunch/Breakfast) - i had a bowl of raw fish rice! too early for my stomach :P - walk to Ferry Memorial Ship Mashu-maru Museum 0900-1600 函館市青函連絡船記念館摩周丸 (Adults - 500, Child - 250) - Visit Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse - see the shops - Tram to Goryōkaku 特別史跡五稜郭跡 (Adults - 900, Child - 450) - we waited from late after to evening, just to see the sunset :) - Tram to Hakodate BeerHall, Japan, 〒040-0053 Hokkaido, Hakodate, 末広町14番12号 for dinner #celebratewithtrip

This is the Hakodate Cathedral. It is an impressive cathedral with a pure white building that matches the snow, just like Hakodate!! The pointed spire and the blue-green roof are different from the cathedrals we are familiar with!! It seems to have been even more impressive because of its unique appearance and the image of a cathedral that doesn't fit well with Japan!! The Orthodox Church is a Christian denomination and one of the three major denominations along with the Catholic Church and the Protestant Church. Hakodate Christos Orthodox Church is the first Orthodox church in Japan and is also known as the birthplace of the Orthodox Church in Japan. The building burned down once, and the current building was rebuilt in 1916. The beautiful architecture, with its impressive white walls and green roofs, was designated as a national important cultural property in June 1983. Earthquake-resistant construction and restoration were carried out from 2021 to 2022, and it is open to the public in a reborn form.

#2024wish In January 2015, I embarked on an unforgettable journey to Hakodate, Japan. The city's charm embraced me as I explored the Hakodate Orthodox Church, with its elegant Byzantine architecture and serene ambiance. The nearby Catholic Church Hakodate Motomachi captivated me with its Gothic beauty, standing as a testament to the city's rich cultural tapestry. Amidst the snow-covered streets, I experienced a unique blend of history and spirituality. As I gazed at the stunning stained glass windows, the winter sun painted vibrant hues across the interiors. The memories linger, etched in the walls of these sacred structures. In 2024, I wish to go there again, to relive the tranquil magic that Hakodate bestowed upon me.

It is now a national important cultural property, so be sure to visit it when you are sightseeing in Hakodate. A church that opens for visit and I did not go there at night. Due to winter the sky turn darks earlier. The church is well lighted and open for visit on the ground but not the building itself for evening. This is near mount Hakodate area. #bucketlistreboot
