There was a charming historical site that made the Disney castle look like a garden shed. But the really interesting part was the guide we met at the entrance. He had a wealth of historical knowledge, but more than that, his storytelling was an art. It felt more like watching a blockbuster movie than attending a history class. If you ever go to Hoi An, don't just pass by the Hainan Assembly Hall. Make sure to visit. If you're lucky, you might get to experience a tour by this incredibly passionate guide. Just meeting someone who talks about ancient architecture as if they've won the lottery is enough to make the visit worthwhile.

#vietnamtrip Hainan Assembly Hall was constructed in 1851 with a purpose of memorial to the 108 Chinese traders from Hainan Island, China who were mistaken for pirates killed at sea by a Vietnamese general under King Tu Duc 🤴 Later on, Hainan Assembly Hall was transformed as a social space, spiritual and commercial business discussion place for Chinese immigrants from Hainan.
