⚠️ The best viewing time for seagulls and redwoods is from November to December, be sure to plan your trip in advance to avoid missing this beautiful scenery❤️
📍 **Navigation: Huanhu South Road
This self-driving route has a dozen kilometers along the way, and the whole road is beautiful. It is especially recommended to go after four o'clock in the afternoon on a sunny day, bring your own seagull food, and you can get close to this group of white elves on the seagull season railing.
There are attractions around Huanhu South Road:

Haigeng Dam - Yunnan Scenery 64, Kunming City
Haigeng Dam is a scenic spot by Dianchi Lake. In 1985, a flock of red-billed gulls came to Kunming from Siberia to spend the winter, and citizens fed them. Since then, every winter, the red-billed gulls come here to spend the winter. Thousands of red-billed gulls scramble for food thrown into the air by tourists, which is very spectacular.

Don't come! The night market by the dam is indescribable
It's hard to describe in a few words how fun this night market is.
The Haigeng Dam📍 in Kunming has a unique night market. It's not very long, only about a kilometer, but it hides endless delicious food and has an amazing atmosphere👍. However, it only gets lively after 23:00🎊.
The night market stalls offer a dazzling variety of options😜, including refreshing drinks🥤, sizzling skewers🍢, filling burgers🍔, uniquely flavored grilled birds🐦, sweet desserts🍰, crispy egg waffles🥚, cool and sweet ice cream🍦, and special instant noodles, among others. It's simply a paradise for foodies😃.
You can buy a few of your favorite snacks and then find a stall with a good atmosphere to sit down. While eating and drinking, you can enjoy the evening breeze from the west coast of Dianchi Lake. That kind of comfort is really indescribable🤩.
Personal recommendations💯
▶️Grilled Bird Stall🐣
The grilled bird skewers here are absolutely amazing😍. After careful marination, they are slowly grilled over charcoal until golden brown. The meat is tender and juicy, with each bite full of rich flavor😋.
▶️Blue Car🚙
The drinks here are wonderfully mixed, and taking a sip feels like being in a sweet dream🥰. I had two cups in a row.
▶️Burger Stall🍔
🧈The butter aroma is irresistible, with fresh vegetables, juicy patties, crispy bread, and special sauces. Just the smell makes you want to have one😜.
▶️Desserts🍰
Soft and sticky put chai ko, sweet cakes, crispy cookies, purple rice milk bricks, dopamine ice jelly... all can satisfy your craving for sweets.
▶️Drinks🍸
Various special mixed drinks, lemon tea series, canned milk tea, coffee, bubble tea, coconut egg... so many choices that it's hard to decide🍻.

The room is clean and comfortable
The location is great, very close to the subway station, the room is clean and comfortable, the sheets and duvet covers are new, the wifi is also good, watching movies is not laggy, the air conditioning heating is also good, not cold at all, the bathing facilities are very complete, the shampoo smells nice, the front desk receptionist is very enthusiastic, always greets when entering, there is free parking, it feels like the treatment of a star-rated hotel.

Kunming Two-Day Itinerary
Our trip was mainly to visit Shangri-La and Dali, initially thinking of Kunming as just a quick layover. But we found Kunming to be exceptionally fun🥹
We went out for dinner shortly after landing in the afternoon and checking into our hotel. We dined at the Border Canteen, which was really, really good; each dish was around 10 yuan on average, and the two of us ordered a large portion for just over 40 yuan. It was both affordable and delicious. After dinner, we visited the old streets of Kunming and the nearby Jinma Biji Square. There are many snacks on the old streets of Kunming, and compared to many tourist areas, the prices are quite cheap.
The next morning, we went to the Haigeng Dam. My goodness, this place has more seagulls than people. But it's really super photogenic, and there are many aunties there offering to take photos, but we didn't ask any because we had no money😩 If you think there are too many people, you can keep walking forward; the further you go, the fewer people there are.
We had lunch at the Shui Lu Ecological Museum. This place was also very crowded; we went there around 1 PM and had to queue for about half an hour. But their food is also very, very delicious. You must try the water fern vegetable and yellow throat!!! It's absolutely amazing. I fell in love with Yunnan cuisine; it's really, really good.
In the afternoon, we went to the Laoyuhe Wetland Park. This park is a bit far from the city center; it took us about an hour to get there by taxi. But the scenery there is truly unbeatable, my friends. You must go when the sun is about to set. The sunset in Kunming is quite late, around 7 to 7:30 PM🌅
In conclusion, Kunming is really a great city with a nice climate, low cost of living, delicious food, and a pleasant environment.

Discovering Scenic Delights 🌨️🏞️ 🌅🕊️ 🍁🌊
#cherryblossom2024
Exploring Kunming in winter unveils a different kind of beauty, with several enchanting spots offering a delightful experience. Cuihu Park is a must-visit, where you can marvel at seagulls gliding gracefully over the lake, while the ginkgo biloba trees shed their golden leaves, and the maple trees blush with red hues, creating a stunning natural spectacle. 🍁🌊
For a serene riverside experience, head to the Daegan River near the 920 Hospital. Here, you can observe seagulls in flight against the backdrop of Dianpu Pyeongjin's scenic beauty, adding to the picturesque setting. 🌅🕊️
The Xiailian River, located opposite the West Gate of the provincial Party Committee, offers another delightful winter scene. The beauty of the metasequoia trees lining the riverbank is simply captivating and is sure to leave you in awe. 🌲❄️
Lastly, don't miss the opportunity to visit the Dianchi Haigeng Dam, renowned for being one of the best places in Kunming to admire seagulls. The sight of these elegant birds against the backdrop of the dam's impressive structure is a sight to behold. 🦢🏞️

Kunming Haigeng Dam, a romantic dance with seagulls
The Haigeng Dam is a great spot in Kunming for watching seagulls. The place is spacious and there's no admission fee. Every winter, tens of thousands of red-beaked seagulls fly here from distant Siberia, attracting millions of tourists to witness this spectacular sight.
I saw a particularly interesting piece of news🗞️, on the first day of the Lunar New Year in 2024, Kunming Haigeng Dam welcomed tens of thousands of visitors. On average, each seagull🕊️ had to 'greet' a hundred tourists per day, and they really couldn't manage to eat any more bread.

Haigeng Dam in Kunming, seagulls in the original picture straight out! So beautiful
VIVO's original camera produces images directly, with no filters, and unexpectedly captured a very stunning quality, just too beautiful.
Guys, our travel route is to take Line 2 to the North Railway Station, then transfer to Line 5 to Dam Station Exit A, and there is a bus stop right outside the station. Bus 171 can take you to Haigeng Dam. But!! Here comes the important part, the bus is really crowded and noisy, to the point where it's hard to close the doors, so I suggest riding a shared bike for more comfort. Once you reach Haigeng Dam, you can see the lovely seagulls!
However, if you plan to buy bread to feed them, I recommend buying the kind of cake that looks like a banana and is oily. We bought a bag for ten yuan. If you think that's expensive, I suggest bringing your own, which is more likely to attract seagulls to snatch the food, while the bread doesn't seem to be as appealing to them. Many were thrown on the viewing platform, and no seagulls went to pick them up. Seagulls will also eat seagull feed, but you have to hold it for a long time before a seagull will come to eat it, and you might even get pecked on the hand while feeding. But scattering the feed will also attract seagulls, it's just a bit wasteful.
A word of caution for something to avoid!!
There will be people dressed as Sun Wukong on the dam, and it's quite novel when you see them, right? When you approach, they will come over to shake hands, and then they will pull you next to them. Most people would want to take a photo, and Sun Wukong is very cooperative. As soon as the photo is taken, he will make a gesture for money. They won't mention money at all before the photo is taken, and my friend had this experience. I've seen many people get tricked in the past few days, so be cautious!!
The second thing to watch out for is the grilled tofu sold nearby. Personally, I don't think it tastes good, it's a bit choking, the skin is very dry and hard, and it's ten yuan for a portion with thirteen pieces.
Lastly, the seagulls are very cute, but there are also quite a lot of people. Even on non-weekend days, it's quite lively.

The complete guide to feeding seagulls at Dianchi Lake, just follow along and you'll be fine
Recommended spots to view seagulls✔️
1️⃣ Haigeng Park
2️⃣ The boardwalk from Haigeng Park to Haigong Wetland (highly recommended❗️)
Along the boardwalk and viewing platforms, there are seagulls everywhere, much closer than in Haigeng Park, and they are not picky eaters, with fewer people around✔️
📝 Tips for feeding seagulls
1️⃣ The cheapest bird feed is at Haigeng Park❗️ 10💰 for 3 packs, elsewhere it's 10💰 per pack
2️⃣ Seagulls prefer banana bread and small yellow bread🍞 It's recommended to buy these at the supermarket and bring them over for a cheaper price
3️⃣ Strongly recommend going to the boardwalk to see the seagulls, you can even sit right next to them! (See pictures 12)
🕙 Best time to feed seagulls:
Morning 8-10 am (at this time the seagulls are still hungry, making it easier to feed them)
Afternoon 5-6 pm, dinner time
Transportation🚗
● It's recommended to take a taxi to 【Haigong Wetland Park】 and walk back, this way you can avoid the most congested sections of Haigeng Dam and Haigeng Park
● The same applies for driving👉🏻 There are also plenty of parking spaces at the Wetland Park

The Best Spot to Watch Seagulls at Haigeng Dam, a Must-See Guide!!
🐦 Haigeng Dam is the main habitat for seagulls. Choosing the right time, location, and seagull feed can exceed your expectations!
🌟 Best Location
Every day from 8:30 to 9:30 AM is the designated feeding time by the staff at Haigeng Dam. The feeding spot is right opposite the 'Jin's Courtyard', so this location has the most seagulls and is the most spectacular. However, because the Haigeng Dam is so long, many tourists fail to find this best spot to watch seagulls.
👀 Best Time
It is recommended to arrive at Haigeng Dam before 8:30 AM when there are few people, and you can choose a satisfactory shooting position. Additionally, the seagulls, hungry after a night, are more willing to interact with people, making the feeding experience the best. If you arrive after 10 AM or in the afternoon, the seagulls are already full and generally float on the sea surface, so you won't see a large number of flying seagulls!
🐦 Best Seagull Feed
Dark brown seagull feed (a bit pungent) has a stronger taste than the lighter one, and seagulls prefer it.
Seagulls really like the sweet and greasy banana milk-flavored cake.
French petit bread, toast, and old bread have a light taste, which seagulls don't love.
In short, seagulls have a bit of a strong taste.
🚗 Best Transportation
If you take the subway to Haigeng Dam, you will have to walk a long way, so it is recommended to take a taxi.
✅ Feeding Seagulls in the Afternoon
Please move to Haihong Wetland or Laoyu River Park. Watch the most beautiful sunset over Xishan + a sky full of flying seagulls.

Yunnan Travel Guide: A Road Trip Northward
Finally arrived at a place with wind~✈️
After landing in Kunming, I headed straight for the Haigeng Dam. Unfortunately, the seagulls seemed to have had their fill in the afternoon, but that didn't stop me from capturing a beautiful sunset photo🌇.
Next, I started my official road trip, taking the high-speed train from Kunming to Dali Station, and then picking up a car nearby. The first stop was Fengyang Yip, where I checked in at the windy courtyard🏡. This is a courtyard on the ancient Tea Horse Road and a major filming location for TV dramas. Remember to make a reservation in advance! For homestays in Cai Village, I recommend choosing the sea view homestay in Baizi's residence in Cai Village. The ecological corridor of Erhai Lake is right in front of the homestay, where you can ride a small electric motorcycle or bicycle freely, and you can also watch the sunrise on the rooftop of the homestay🌅.
Strolling leisurely along the Hai Xi Ecological Corridor, Erhai Lake is full of beautiful scenery everywhere, experiencing ethnic portraits, and enjoying the leisurely time of blowing the wind by Erhai Lake. Go to Xizhou Ancient Town, about twenty kilometers away from Cai Village. I still recommend driving by yourself. The wheat field in Xizhou is the main check-in place. Remember to buy a balloon🎈 to add atmosphere! On the way from Cai Village to Xizhou, you will pass the Chongsheng Temple Three Pagodas.
Arriving in Lijiang, go to Yuhu Village, which is the first village under the snow mountain, very quiet, and you can watch the starry sky at night⭐. You can directly see the snow mountain from the rooftop of the homestay🏔️. Then, I went to the Yulong Snow Mountain Scenic Area and checked in at Yunshanping and Blue Moon Valley. Under the sun, Blue Moon Valley is particularly stunning, while Yunshanping gives people a sense of returning to the beautiful scenery of Tibet.
Finally, go to Lugu Lake, which is said to be the prototype of the Daughter Country, the matriarchal clan settlement of the Mosuo people, and also the highest altitude lake in the mainland. Along the way, you will pass the Jin'an Jinsha River Bridge. Don't forget to admire the model of the infrastructure madman! Playing cable cars and island tours in Lugu Lake are highly recommended, especially when the weather is good. Lugu Lake is a national first-class drinking water source, and the lake water is clear and sweet, which is worth tasting.
The entire Yunnan trip is full of beautiful scenery and surprises, looking forward to feeling the charm of this land again in the off-season. Traveling heals our souls and fills our lives with color and hope!🌿🌞🌺

The seagulls do nothing but spend the day feeding on the sea dike dam
On the return trip that day, the temperature in the Spring City began to rise, and the cherry blossoms on Yinghai Road were in full bloom. It takes just two minutes to walk to the place where the seagulls flock together at the sea dike dam. This place has a vast sky and sea, and it's even better than the Green Lake Park. Flocks of red-beaked gulls fly back and forth along the shore of Dianchi Lake, pecking at the bread in people's hands. Holding the bread, I stand on the embankment, and the little guys come one after another. They peck with such force that if you're not careful, the whole piece of bread will slip from your grasp. A half piece of bread temporarily placed on the embankment was snatched away by a clever gull, which dropped it into Dianchi Lake, attracting a group of seagulls to scramble for it. This process was quite novel and interesting. Both parties wanted to get close but were so cautious; we were worried about them pecking our hands, and there were also the white bombs. They longed for the food in our hands, yet instinctively feared humans. The process of giving was certainly pleasant. If it weren't for the need to catch a plane, I would really like to feed them slowly all day. In the future, we shall meet again!

Take your kids to Kunming to see seagulls in spring, keep this guide handy
Take your kids to Yunnan for a trip in spring, and of course, getting up close and personal with seagulls is a must.
Seagull viewing spots:
【Haigeng Dam】Haigeng Dam
Along the dam for a kilometer, you can trace the flight of seagulls from morning till evening.
The number of seagulls here is quite large, and it's also where a lot of people gather to watch them.
During peak times, it's very crowded, so be careful with children to avoid the throngs.
【Haihong Wetland Park】Haihong Wetland
There are fewer seagulls here, and the dam doesn't have a fence, so be careful when getting close to the seagulls.
【Laoyuhe Park】Laoyuhe Wetland Park
It's a bit far from the Kunming city center, but the scenery is unique.
You can go down to the riverside to enjoy the view of the metasequoia trees and interact with the seagulls.
【Cuihu】Cuihu
Located in the city center, it's convenient to get here right after getting off the high-speed train.
The scenery is so beautiful that it captivates many tourists. You can enjoy both flower viewing and seagull watching.
The seagulls are concentrated near the south gate, and it's recommended to go there at noon, as you won't see them in the afternoon.
【Daguan Park】Daguan Park
It's advised to feed the seagulls here before 4 PM, as they 'clock out' if you come too late.
The lake view and the arch bridge here complement each other, and if you want to be in the same frame as the seagulls, the picture is even more beautiful.
Besides feeding seagulls in the park, you can also stroll around and experience the local culture and architecture.
Seize the time before the seagulls fly away, and take action

Travel Plan | Meeting with Seagulls at "Hai Geng Dam" - Poetry and Distance
♥️To see the seagulls, it's best to go in the morning. We arrived around 10:30, and it was already crowded with people. By 12 o'clock, the seagulls had almost had their fill and had gone to the sea.
🌈The sun was shining brightly, but the wind was strong, so it's advisable to keep warm. Although hats can be blown away by the wind, not wearing one can easily lead to catching a cold.
🌈Feeding the seagulls: Seagull food > Cookies > Bread
🌈It's recommended to record with the original camera or turn on Live, so you can capture the seagulls in action~
♥️Coming to Kunming is all about chasing the seagulls. I sincerely suggest going to Hai Geng Dam in the morning when there are fewer people and the view is spectacular. Plus, the chances of getting good photos are high with just a mobile phone.
♥️Be patient, wait slowly, and if you place the food in your palm or hold it in your hand, they may occasionally fly over to eat. It's very healing. If you have the chance, you must go and experience it. They are very cute. Originally, it wasn't in our itinerary, but we decided to go after returning to Kunming. We got up early in the morning, had breakfast, and took a taxi there. No regrets at all.

✅Chenggong Jiangwei Village
(Exit A of Gucheng Station on Subway Line 4, then walk about 1 kilometer)
❤️tips: The wind in Kunming in spring is relatively strong, and the temperature difference between day and night is also relatively large, so pay attention to adding or reducing clothes and sun protection. Also, be careful not to trample on the crops while enjoying the flowers

D2: Cuihu➡Daguanzhen New Agricultural Market➡Dounan Flower Market
📜Travel Guide:
⛰Dianchi Haigeng Dam Travel Notes: Recommendation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
It is recommended that everyone go to Haigeng Dam early in the morning to experience the fun of feeding seagulls. Buy Daliyuan bread in advance🍞.
⛰Exploration of Haihong Wetland Park: Recommendation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The distance from Haigeng Dam to Wetland Park is only 2 kilometers, you can choose to walk🚶♀, or you can choose to ride a bicycle🚴 or a small electric donkey. After arriving at the Wetland Park, take a boat tour, it's really super beautiful!! Especially for taking pictures.
⛰Xishan Park & Longmen Scenic Area Guide: Recommendation: ⭐⭐⭐
Buy a one-way cable car ticket🎫, take the sea cable car🌊. After reaching the top of the mountain, you can take another cable car to Longmen Scenic Area. When going down the mountain, you can choose to walk a section of the road and then buy a bus ticket, and take the bus directly to Xishan Park Subway Station (Line 3).
⛰Cuihu Play Tips: Recommendation: ⭐⭐⭐
Cuihu Park is most suitable for summer play, because the lotus in the pool is in full bloom this season. If you go now, the lotus has withered, and it feels similar to ordinary parks, a bit plain. But it is worth mentioning that there is a beautiful yellow wall scenery behind the park, you can walk🚶 to it.
⛰Daguanzhen New Agricultural Market Food Recommendation: Recommendation: ⭐⭐⭐
The variety of fruits here is super many, some of which are hard to see in other places, worth a try. Many stalls in the market offer tasting, so you can taste boldly.
⛰Dounan Flower Market Exploration Guide: Recommendation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Take the subway🚇 from Jinguixi Station B exit, you can reach Dounan Flower Market. The flower prices here are relatively low, it is recommended to bargain appropriately, because the surrounding areas of Yunnan are flower producing areas, the prices are relatively friendly.
🎞Experience Evaluation:
✔Cuihu Park, close to the youth hostel, is just a casual stroll+feeding seagulls+sunbathing+watching tulips, watching squirrels🐿
✔Haigeng Dam, the seagulls here are bold and will stand directly on their hands. Seagulls will fly over your head, it is recommended to bring an umbrella (you know)
✔Daguan Tower, few people and many seagulls, close to Haigeng Dam, you can watch the sunset🌇
✔Dounan Flower Market, start to enter roses at 8:40 in the evening, but if you just want to buy some flowers to play, you can go at 2.3 in the afternoon, many cheap flowers, I bought 5 sunflowers for 7r🌻
✔Dounan Wetland Park, just... not so fun
✔Laoyuhe Wetland Park, you can walk to the beach/dead wood area, the pictures there are more outstanding, the waves are bigger, it feels like watching the sea! There are also many seagulls here!!
📝Travel Feelings:
🥥We arrived in Kunming the night before, played all day the next day, and then took the train at night. There is a subway in Kunming city🚇, but I feel that compared to other cities, it is not very convenient. It is recommended to travel by subway➕small electric car will be more convenient.

Life advice: You must feed the seagulls when you come to Kunming, with a guide attached
Many friends come to Kunming as a transit station, but Kunming is really worth spending time to play! The scenery is beautiful and the transportation is convenient! There are many seagulls at the Haigeng Dam, and the Whale Island is really beautiful! The Taxodium distichum in Laoyuhe is really amazing~
.
Take a baby for a day's play and summarize several places:
📍Haigeng Dam (Figure 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9)
💛Advantages: Most seagulls
Disadvantages: Many people after 9 o'clock
tips: You must arrive before 8 o'clock,
It's really good to shoot when there are few people, and the gull food is cheap!
🌟The seagulls here do not eat bread, do not eat European food, they like to eat dog food and cat food, the kind of gull food they sell on their hands is too expensive for 10 yuan a pack, you must bargain, go early, we are 10 yuan 4 packs!
.
📍Haihong Wetland Park
💛Advantages: There are fewer people here, not far from the city,
You can also take pictures by the river!
If you only go to one place, then this is a good choice!
There are feeders here to command the seagulls, it's very interesting!
.
📍Laoyuhe Wetland Park (Figure 4)
💛Advantages: The Taxodium distichum here is very big, really beautiful, too good-looking. You can also take silhouettes. You can row a boat in the middle of the Taxodium distichum.
Disadvantages: A little far from the city~
You can play here all day, the park is very big.
.
💛Whale Island (Figure 1, 2, 10-17)
📍Navigate to: South Dianchi Beach Parking Lot
💛Advantages: This place is too beautiful and too beautiful, there are fewer people, there are also Taxodium distichum, and the village is very primitive.
The seagulls here eat everything and are not picky eaters!
Disadvantages: It is far from the city, there is no gull food for sale here, bring your own gull food.
.
Play tips:
1️⃣You can choose one of Laoyuhe Wetland and Haihong Wetland, if you want to go.
2️⃣If you want to go to Whale Island, it is recommended to rent a car for a day, self-driving tour, just play along Dianchi Lake.
3️⃣Feeding seagulls, you have to learn to call "oh", to attract the seagulls. Feed in one place, don't run around, the seagulls just remembered that there is a place to feed here and you ran away, you must start over with "oh".

CALI RODGERS
Kunming Haigeng Dam
A must-visit in Kunming is Dianchi Lake, and a must-see at Dianchi Lake are the seagulls. The sky in Yunnan always seems so clear and blue. The seagulls are very friendly, it is said that they will even take bread from your mouth... I had the experience of feeding the seagulls, can seagulls ever be full? So many tourists feed them, and the surface of the lake is also covered with breadcrumbs. If you hold the bread in your hand, the seagulls will choose the right time to peck. Seagulls don't get fat, they even pose for photos, haha.
Another place in Yunnan, the Dounan Flower Market, has a variety of fresh flowers, exotic plants, rich and colorful, competing for beauty. The flowers are sold by the bunch, a bunch of flowers only costs 28 yuan, it is truly a flower paradise. It is really a city of eternal spring where flowers bloom everywhere. The climate is good, it's worth a visit in winter. Personally, I feel it's more comfortable than Hainan.

The three best places to see seagulls in Kunming, which one suits you?
Every year from November to March of the following year, red-billed seagulls from Siberia will come to Kunming for winter, so one of the must-do things when traveling to Kunming in winter is to see seagulls. So where is the best place to see seagulls in Kunming? Today, I have compiled the three most popular feeding points in Kunming for you:
✅ Haigeng Dam【Picture 2,3】
Advantages: Wide view, most seagulls.
Disadvantages: Far from the city, very many tourists.
Time: Feeding time is 08:30-09:30.
Transportation: Exit A of Yinghai Road Station on Subway Line 5, about 15 minutes walk.
⚠️ Reminder:
1️⃣ Must go in the morning! Must go in the morning! Must go in the morning! Because there are fewer people in the morning, and the seagulls haven't eaten anything, they are very willing to get close to people.
2️⃣ After 11 o'clock or in the afternoon, you can hardly see a large number of flying seagulls, because the seagulls have already eaten at this time and are all floating on the water.
✅ Haihong Wetland Park【Picture 4,5】
Advantages: Not many tourists, the number of seagulls is second only to Haigeng Dam.
Disadvantages: Far from the city.
Time: Feeding time is 16:00-18:00.
Transportation: Exit B of Jinjia River Station on Subway Line 5, about 12 minutes walk.
⚠️ Reminder:
1️⃣ Along Dianchi Lake, there are about 1 kilometer of seagulls, it is easy to find 0️⃣ people machine position.
2️⃣ There is a water fir forest in the wetland park, and a wooden plank road is built in the water fir forest. During the flood season, you can row a boat, 90 yuan/hour for each boat, and 2 yuan/minute for overtime.
✅ Cuihu Park【Picture 6,7,8】
Advantages: It is in the city center, you can sit by the lake and feed the seagulls at close range.
Disadvantages: There are not as many seagulls as Dianchi Lake.
Time: Feeding time is around 12:00
Transportation: Walk to the end of Wenlin Road, or Exit B of Huashan West Road Station on Subway Line 5, about 10 minutes walk.
⚠️ Reminder:
1️⃣ Cuihu Park is very large, not only seagulls, but also many other small animals, such as geese and squirrels, etc., you can prepare some nuts to feed the squirrels.
2️⃣ The west gate of Cuihu Park is the Yunnan Military Academy, one of the top three military academies in the Republic of China, and you can watch the soldier's changing of the guard ceremony at three o'clock in the afternoon.
📝 Notes
1️⃣ The bread bought in the supermarket may not be eaten by seagulls. You can bring some snacks with a fishy smell, such as shrimp-flavored fries.
2️⃣ There are also small breads for feeding seagulls on site, 10 yuan a bag, buy two bags can be bargained to 15 yuan.
3️⃣ The wind on the edge of Dianchi Lake is particularly strong, it is best to wear a coat when you come in the morning and evening.

When you're tired from going out, of course you need to choose a good place to rest! The South Xinjiang Hotel is really good~
As soon as the high-speed rail enters Yunnan, the sky is clear and the sun is shining,
I can responsibly say that Kunming definitely has more than just feeding seagulls, there are quite a few things to do here, if you have enough time, you can play for a day or two before going to the next destination.
🏠Accommodation: South Xinjiang Hotel
The hotel is clean and safe, the location is very good, close to Cuihu Park (about 10 minutes away), you can walk to Cuihu Park-Kunming Old Street; and it takes less than half an hour to take a taxi to Kunming Station, which is very convenient for catching the high-speed rail.
🍜Food:
On the way from the hotel to Cuihu Park, there is a 'Wang's Wenshan Breakfast', which is a small shop that serves chicken soup rice noodles, very authentic, good value for money. The special Yunnan crossing bridge rice noodles are eaten at the 'Fennel Yunnan Sheng' crossing bridge rice noodles across from Cuihu Park, it's worth a try👍 (if there are many people, you can go to the nearby Xilou for dinner)
⛩️Attractions:
1️⃣ Cuihu Park:
I, who rarely go to parks, have a pretty good impression of Cuihu Park. In mid-February, there are quite a few seagulls in the park, you can take a boat to get close to the seagulls; the flowers in the park are also budding, it's really a full garden of spring.
2️⃣Kunming Old Street:
I personally think it's just an enlarged version of Chengdu Jinli, not highly recommended haha😂, I ate a bowl of rice noodles in it, not so good. (When I was drinking coffee near Cuihu Park, I heard that there is the former residence of Wen Yiduo, I didn't have the chance to go this time, you can consider going to see it)
3️⃣Haigeng Dam:
I personally think it's a must-visit place haha😆
4️⃣Haigeng Wetland Park:
Not far from Haigeng Dam, after feeding the seagulls, you can stroll over, you can actually feed the seagulls in this park, but there are not as many seagulls as the dam.
5️⃣Xishan Scenic Area:
60 yuan for a one-way ticket, take the cable car across Dianchi Lake to the mountain, it is said that you can see the whole view of Dianchi Lake from Xishan, well, indeed you can see the whole view of Dianchi Lake, but the two best places on Xishan Scenic Area have been turned into paid photo platforms, other places you can see will be blocked by branches. Instead, when I was taking the scenic bus down the mountain, I saw that there were quite a few viewing platforms on the plank road, with a wide and open view. But that hike is quite long, I guess it takes more than an hour and a half to walk up.
In conclusion, Kunming is an old city worth savoring carefully
MILO STEELE
Every year from November to March of the following year, red-billed gulls arrive as scheduled at the Haigeng Dam in Dianchi Lake, Yunnan
Haigeng Dam is located at the intersection of Hongta West Road and Guanjing Road in Xishan District, Kunming City. It is on the north side of the grass sea on the east bank of Dianchi Lake, starting from Yongchang Wetland Park in the north and reaching Haigeng Park in the south, with a total length of about 2.8 kilometers.
Haigeng Dam is a good place to watch red-billed gulls. The red-billed gulls fly all over the sky, which is spectacular. Since 1985, from late October to March of the following year, thousands of red-billed gulls have flown from distant Siberia to the lakeside of Dianchi Lake in Kunming to spend the winter. They arrive every year as scheduled, without interruption.
The cruise ships and speedboats on the Dianchi Dam have also become a beautiful landscape. With the Sleeping Beauty of Xishan as the background and the soaring red-billed gulls as the embellishment, boating on Dianchi Lake, with boats coming and going, is a beautiful scene.
The gulls in groups are very bold and fly to the shore to peck bread from the hands of tourists. They only eat the 'special bread' sold at the stalls by the lake, and they don't eat any other food.
The gulls here fly up and down in groups on the lake, cooing and looking for food from tourists everywhere. In order to take a photo with the gulls, tourists pose in various feeding positions, capture the beautiful moments, and click their phones and cameras to leave the most beautiful pictures.
The dam is very wide and relatively long, and parking is very convenient. There are many newlyweds who come here to take outdoor shots. The wind on the dam is very strong. It is very comfortable to blow the Dianchi wind in summer. Remember to wear more in winter, it is relatively cold.

📌 Share the strategy of Kunming-Dali-Lijiang, welcome to follow
Hey, all you adventurers! Don't just focus on Dali and Lijiang, Kunming in Yunnan also has unique beauty waiting for you to explore. Today I'm going to share with you a great place in Kunming city - 'Seagull Dam', where is an excellent place to feed seagulls, absolutely not to be missed!
------- Tips -------
🔸 Essential for feeding seagulls: bread. But be aware that seagulls have taste, don't give them too old bread, it's best to choose banana-shaped soft bread, they prefer a little moist taste;
🔸 Prepare bread in advance, there are places to feed from Kunming to Dali all the way, but the price is not cheap;
🔸 The staff will regularly take a speedboat to feed the seagulls, thousands of seagulls chasing the speedboat, it's definitely a spectacular scene;
🔸 Wear glasses when feeding seagulls, beware of seagulls' 'accidents';
🔸 The queue time for the toilet is longer during peak periods;
🔸 Don't catch seagulls with your hands.
------- Transportation -------
Take the subway line 5 and get off at 'Dam Station'.
There is a distance from the subway station to Seagull Dam, there are two recommended ways:
① Walk along Yinghai Road, or ride a shared bicycle, you can arrive in 5~10 minutes. There are also many shared electric bikes in Kunming, very convenient!
② Take bus 171 and get off at 'Haigeng Long Dam' station.
------- Time -------
🔸 Red-billed gulls overwinter in Dianchi Lake from November to March of the following year, and the number gradually decreases after March;
🔸 For better shooting effects and fewer crowds, it is recommended to come before 8 am.
------- Surroundings -------
🔸 At the end of Seagull Dam is the starting point of 'West Mountain Cableway', you can choose to climb West Mountain, but be careful, couples😀.
🔸 Next to the West Mountain Cableway is 'Haigeng Wetland Park', which is very lively, and there is also an amusement park and various snacks. Here you can also enjoy the beautiful sunset of West Mountain.
🔸 Walk about 3km along Dianchi Lake from Haigeng Wetland Park to reach 'Haihong Wetland Park' (see the last 4 pictures), where there is a beautiful water fir forest, you can rent a transparent boat to row in the forest, 90💰/hour, need some deposit, but be careful not to overtime;
🔸 The water fir forest is suitable for shooting reflections, the shadow of the water fir swaying in the water waves, plus the algae in the water, it has a unique view.
📌 Many people only regard Kunming as a transit station for Yunnan tourism, but the red-billed gulls of 'Seagull Dam' and the sea of flowers in 'Dounan' have left me the deepest impression. Come and follow, let's discover the beauty of Kunming-Dali-Lijiang together!
