I was lucky enough to visit the Andersen Museum in Odense, Denmark, a museum commemorating the famous fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen, and also the place where he was born. The museum was designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, hiding the exhibition space in a huge ecological garden, giving people the feeling of entering a fairy tale world.
The museum's exhibition is themed "Fairy Tale Forest" and uses new exhibition techniques such as sound, lighting, and images to present classic elements of Andersen's literary world, such as "Tinderbox", "The Little Mermaid", "The Ugly Duckling" and other stories. I also saw Andersen's precious collections including manuscripts, paper-cut art, and personal belongings, which helped me better understand his life and creative process.
I think the Hans Christian Andersen Museum is a place that is very worth visiting. Not only can you appreciate the beautiful architecture and landscape, but you can also feel Andersen's childlike innocence and imagination and relive the fairy tales that have accompanied us as we grew up. I believe everyone can find their own fairy tale dream here. I recommend everyone to visit it if you have the chance in 2024.
