One of the things that I normally would deem as "way too touristy " and yet happy that I did in Seoul - is visiting Gyeongbokgung Palace while wearing traditional Korean clothing called hanbok. This promotes by the government and those who rent a hanbok may enter palaces in Seoul for free - so, it is indeed a cultural thing here. There are plenty of hambok rentals around Gyeongbokgung Palace, so it is a no brainer. The palace itself is beautiful and quite crowded by the main entrance. However, if you walk a bit further from the main gates - it becomes quite empty and enjoyable... And perfect to take lots of pictures in hanbok without any strangers in the frame! Tip 1: hanbok is made of polyester, so it's hot. Save this experience for moderate weather. Tip 2: there is not much shade at Gyeongbokgung Palace, so take an umbrella or use lots of sunscreen if it's sunny. My visit to Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul was truly an unforgettable experience. Before entering the palace, I was pleasantly surprised to catch the changing of the guard ceremony. Witnessing this traditional cultural display firsthand was awe-inspiring, and the entire process was solemn and dignified, giving me a profound sense of Korea's rich history. Despite the scorching weather and the discomfort of the intense sun, the enthusiasm of the visitors remained undiminished. Everywhere I looked, I saw tourists dressed in hanbok, many of whom rented the traditional attire specifically to capture the cultural ambiance in photos. Although I didn't dress up, I was still deeply immersed in the historical atmosphere, feeling as if I had traveled back to the Joseon Dynasty. The grandeur and historical ambiance of Gyeongbokgung Palace undoubtedly made this trip even more enriching and exciting.

The top watched performance is the Changing of Royal Palace Guard and they are dressed in hanbok traditional costumes. Different colours represent their ranks and only the King can wear red colour. This event is at the main entrance at Gwanghwamu Gate everyday at 10am and 2pm except Tuesday. All perforamces are free and only when you enter the palace hen you have to buy an entrance ticket. I Wish I Did This Instead
#koreatrip It was our first time in Korea, and having our pictures taken around Gyeongbokgung Palace was on our bucket list. There were many hanbok rental places near the palace, all offering similar prices with varying services. I chose Gigibebe Hanbok, opting for their special hanbok package with hairstyling. The process was simple and straightforward, and the staff were friendly. There's a toilet in the store, and I recommend using it before putting on the hanbok. Also, wear a skin-colored singlet and heat-tech tights underneath; I was freezing because the skirt was thinner and more exposed than I expected, especially in strong winds. We ended up following a soon-to-be-married couple around during their photoshoot to find good spots for our own photos. Unfortunately, unlike tourist spots in Japan, there are no photo stands available around the castle, making it challenging to get good photos together. The palace is quite large, and people are well spread out, so it was difficult to find someone who could take a decent photo for us. What I would have done differently is to engage a personal photographer for a mini photoshoot. It'll costs about $80-100 per person, which is quite reasonable for quality memories.

The Royal Guard were the royal security guards during the Joseon Dynasty. I had fallen in love with the impressive appearance of the Royal Guard on Instagram, and luckily, I got to see the event in person. The 2024 Changing of the Royal Guard Ceremony is scheduled on weekends and public holidays from 15:00 to 16:00, so it might be a good idea to visit and watch the ceremony at least once. 2024 Changing of the Royal Guard Ceremony ⏰ March 23 (Sat) ~ December 29 (Sun) Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays 15:00~16:00 From Gwanghwamun Square in front of Gyeongbokgung Palace to the cultural street of Insa-dong (every Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday) Gyeongbokgung Palace is not only one of the most beautiful buildings in our country but also has many pretty and historically significant spaces in every corner, so it's a great place to spend a day exploring. Do you know that if you visit Gyeongbokgung Palace with a hanbok, the entrance is free? I booked mine along the street next to the palace and you will be spoilt for choices! In Korea, the biggest palace is Gyeongbokgung palace and the place was huge. I think we spent at least 3.5 hours there. It has a fountain and lake area, with small cute pavilions and many palace sections, each main houses will be decorated with the usual furniture of the person staying in there. There are so many cherry blossoms there so you will be in awe! The changing guard ceremony at Gyeongbokgung palace is taking place everyday except for Tuesday at 10am and 2pm. This changing guard ceremony area no need to pay for admission fee. So you can come over and witness it for yourself. There is no dress code to enter Gyeongbokgung palace too. It is better you wear proper shoes because there is a lot of walking here. You can alight at Gwanghuamun station and walk over. #fallingseason Gyeongbokgung Palace, which creates an antique atmosphere with the combination of natural beauty and traditional houses, makes you fall in love with the charm the more you see it. It's great to be able to enjoy such a wonderful view in the city center. I also looked around Jipokjae, a traditional house with Chinese style, and looked around Hyangwonjeong Pavilion in the northern background of Gyeongbokgung Palace and Hyangwonji, a pond, and the atmosphere was really great. Just standing and looking at it made me feel refreshed.

📍 Gyeongbokgung Palace . 3000₩ entrance (free if wearing a hanbok). biggest Palace of Seoul and of you can visit only one, I recommend this one as its perfectly located in the city center and a very big one. Don't forget to check online for the Change of Palace guards which is amazing to see (generally twice a day) 📍Cheongwadae (korean blue house) . entrance is free BUT you'll have to book online to receive a ticket. you cannot go in without registering before. slots are quite easy to obtain. honestly if you have time I highly recommend, we discovered many things about the past korean presidents and the views on the blue tiles was amazing 📍bukcheon village . tiny place near Gyeongbokgung Palace. very easy to walk to cause its close but be careful its very sharp hills to go up. there you can have great views on the beautiful alleys and Namsan Tower from there 🔆 tips: you can rent a hanbok ( 한복 ) anywhere around the palace area for minimum 20.000₩, entrances to palaces will then be free ! #helloautumn #trip #instatravel #koreatrip #korea #southkorea #gyeongbokgung #palace #cheongwadae #bukcheon
