[Buyo, South Korea] A beautiful lotus pond garden where the legend of love from Baekje during the Three Kingdoms period remains
#Memories of traveling abroad
The capital of Baekje during the Three Kingdoms period was located in what is now Buyeo County, South Chungcheong Province. One of the remains of Baekje that remains in beautiful form is Gungnamchi Pond.
・
Gunggnamchi Pond is the site of the legend of the love between Baekje prince Seodong and Princess Seonhwa of Silla.
When Seodong was a young man, he heard rumors that Princess Seonhwa, the third daughter of the king of neighboring Silla, was beautiful, and he set off for Silla. He taught the children of Silla a song he had written, "Seodongyo," and had them sing it, spreading it widely even within the capital. However, the song was about Princess Seonhwa secretly visiting Seodong's room every night. When King Jinpyeong found out about the song, he exiled Princess Seonhwa, claiming that she had brought shame to the royal family. Seodong waited in ambush on the way and returned to Baekje with Princess Seonhwa. Later, he became King Muwang of Baekje and Seonhwa became queen.

It is said that King Mu later built a villa on the site of Gungnamji Pond to ease Princess Seonhwa's homesickness after she left her hometown of Silla.
-
Gunggnamji Pond is also recorded in the Korean history book "Samguk Sagi" and is famous as the oldest man-made pond in Korea. Lotus flowers and wildflowers are planted around the pond, creating a beautiful landscape.

In the middle of the pond is a beautiful gazebo called Poyongjeong, and the vermilion-painted wooden bridge was impressive.
