The location of the flag-raising ceremony when the New Territories were taken over in 1899. As Tai Po was regarded by the colonial government as the centre of the New Territories, it became the administrative headquarters of the New Territories. Until 1949, the Old Tai Po Police Station was used as the New Territories Police Headquarters. Later, the Old Tai Po Police Station was used for various police functions, including a divisional police station and the New Territories North Regional Crime Prevention Unit office. The old Tai Po Police Station ceased operations until 1987, when the new Tai Po Divisional Police Station came into use.
