Gongsanseong, a World Cultural Heritage site located in Gongju, was a sturdy mountain fortress that protected Gongju during the Baekje period! The finale of the Gongju Tour is the Gongsanseong Fortress Tour. You can take the mini train or walk around and see everything in 30 minutes. There are also reenactments for children on weekends, so it would be good for education. If you climb up the mountain fortress, you can see Gongju city at a glance, and you can also see the river. This is Gongsanseong Fortress in Gongju-si, Chungcheongnam-do, Republic of Korea. It served as the royal castle of Ungjin Baekje from 475, when Baekje moved its capital to Gongju, until King Seong moved the capital to Buyeo in 538. It is connected to Gongju-si to the south, and borders the Geumgang River to the north. Most of the mountainous area, except for the southeast, has a steep slope, creating a natural fortress-like terrain with a folding screen. Important facilities, including the royal palace, were placed inside. These relics, which functioned as royal castles by installing the royal palace inside the mountain fortress, are evaluated as characteristic royal castle relics of Baekje. As I was strolling the city, I was determined to walk and explore the hidden gem the City of Gongju. This historic place right inside the heart of the city really gives me the amazement of how history has an impact on the life of Gongju people. The Baekje Historic areas located in the Mid-West region of South Korea. Consist of the following sites; Gonsanseong Fortress and Tomb of King Muryeon and Royal Tombs. It was July 8, 2013 , the Baekje Historic Areas became a World Heritage site. UNESCO World Heritage Committe adopted a statement of the Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) for the Baekje Historic Areas that Baekje contributed to the cultural development in the ancient East Asia. I went to Gongju Metasequoia Road and Gongsanseong! It was a very healing trip. The weather was great and there weren't many people, It was a trip where I could fully enjoy myself! And I recommend going to Gongsanseong right before sunset at around 6 o'clock! #SpringTravel Gongsanseong is an ancient fortress of Baekje. It was also called ‘Ungjinseong’ (Baekje period), ‘Gongsanseong’ (Goryeo period), and ‘Ssangsusanseong’ (Joseon period). It was the capital of Baekje during the Ungjin period after the capital was moved from Hanseong to Ungjin in the first year of King Munju of Baekje (475), and until it was moved back to Buyeo (Sabi Castle) in the 16th year of King Seong (538). It was also the center of local administration and a strategic military location during the Goryeo and Joseon periods. It is located on a ridge 110m above sea level, and the Geumgang River flows to the north, making it a natural fortress. It was originally built with earth, but most of it was rebuilt into a stone fortress during the Joseon period. Many relics from each period, from Baekje to Goryeo and Joseon, have been excavated. Inside the fortress, there are relics such as Imryugak, Yeonji, Ssangsujeong, Myeongguk Samjangbi, Gongbukru, and Jinnamru.
