It's also easy to walk over If you are around Tiananmen Square or the Forbidden City too ! As it's the current summer school holiday here,if you intend to take DiDi ride from your hotel, you may end up alighting off-site due to heavy human traffic and road blocks. You will either ask around or rely on Google maps to walk over. Remember to check the weather for any thunderstorm alert before heading out ! Dashilan Street is around 276m and is one of the most vibrant and historic commercial hub in Beijjng. Historical landmarks, traditional paifang gateways, age-old shops, teahouses, courtyards and hutongs plus antique style architecture line the street in a contemporary blend with cultural charm. Alternatively, a more modern and equally thrilling option is the cable car ride, which glides silently above the treetops, providing a breathtaking bird's-eye view of the wall snaking along the ridgeline. Once on the wall, the sense of adventure truly takes hold. The watchtowers, some of which have been beautifully restored, punctuate the wall's path, inviting exploration. The jungle's presence is constant, with trees and shrubs clinging to the slopes below, their leaves rustling in the breeze. I just lived what might be the best experience of my entire life: spending the night on the Great Wall of China, in a remote, wild, and unrestored section – the kind of place you’re technically not allowed to camp on… but where the magic truly happens. 🌿 The adventure took me to 📍Address: Huanghuacheng Lakeside, a tiny mountain village hidden deep in nature, about 2 hours from Beijing. Far from the tourist crowds and manicured sections, this part of the Wall is untouched, abandoned, and completely silent. No fences, no ticket booths, no noise – just stone, trees, and time standing still. ✨ I had the rare chance to sleep directly on the Wall. Lying on ancient stones, under a sky full of stars, surrounded by misty mountains – it was simply unreal. No words can capture the peace, the thrill, and the connection I felt to history. ⚠️ Keep in mind: camping on the Wall is technically forbidden, especially in non-renovated areas. It’s something you do at your own risk, with maximum respect for the site and its legacy. But if you’re the adventurous type, this could be an experience that changes your life. Visiting the Great Wall was one of the absolute highlights of our trip to Beijing. We chose the Mutianyu section and went there with a private guide, who drove us in his comfortable, air-conditioned car — no transfers, no stress, just smooth travel 🚗💨 We arrived at the wall around 4 PM, and it turned out to be the perfect time. There were no lines at all — not at the entrance, not for the shuttle bus, not for the cable car. And once we got on the Wall itself, it was nearly empty. It felt like we had it all to ourselves 🧡 We had plenty of time (and space!) to take beautiful photos in the soft afternoon light 📸✨ Before the cable car, there’s a small tourist street with souvenir shops and snack places — even Pizza Hut and Burger King. The walk to the actual cable car station takes about 10–15 minutes and includes lots of stairs — so if you’re visiting with kids, don’t bring a stroller. Our guide had pre-booked the tickets and advised us to take the closed cable car, since rain was in the forecast. We went with it to be safe — but in the end, the weather was sunny and clear, and the open cable car would have been much more fun and scenic 🌄 Oh well — next time! The Wall itself is truly massive and majestic. In summer, everything is lush and green, and the mountain views are incredible. Despite the heat, a light breeze made it easier to walk and climb the steps. Unfortunately, we had to skip some key places: the Forbidden City, the Olympic Park, and Beihai Park. Weather: very hot, though mostly cloudy. Expect rain showers at night or early in the morning 🌧️. ⸻ Day 1 Exhausted and disoriented after our overnight flight, we finally arrived on Monday instead of Sunday — which was a big problem because most museums (including the Forbidden City) are closed on Mondays. After checking into our hotel (just a 10-minute walk from the Temple of Heaven), we had lunch nearby and headed to Ritan Park (Temple of the Sun Park) 🌳. Later, around sunset, we explored Galaxy SOHO, grabbed some coffee, and walked among the famous Hadid “clouds” ☁️. I planned to go to the CCTV Headquarters next — but accidentally entered the TV Tower in the taxi app. We spent almost an hour in traffic getting to the wrong place 😅. That was the end of Day 1. ⸻ Day 2 A full-day private tour 🚗: • Summer Palace 🌿 • A traditional tea ceremony 🍵 • Mutianyu Great Wall 🏯 Our amazing guide drove us everywhere and even dropped us off near the real CCTV Headquarters in the evening. A long but rewarding day! ⸻ Day 3 We started the morning with a walk around the Temple of Heaven 🎋. Then: • Beijing Zoo 🐼 • Prince Gong’s Mansion • Lama Temple 🛕 • A peaceful evening stroll near the Forbidden City walls, soaking in the atmosphere of Beijing before leaving 🌇. I took a casual walk around Longfu Temple and Dongsi North Street, and unexpectedly felt another quiet atmosphere in Beijing. 🥖 I bought the legendary "Luhui Bread" which is very popular. I love sour bread and alkaline bread. The yeast aroma is full and the crust is crispy and super satisfying. 🥛 Successfully punched in the retro state-owned style - Then I bought a bottle of fresh milk at Hongxing Qianjin. It's so fun to use a glass bottle to collect fresh milk! It's so thick that it hangs on the wall (a small bottle is 8.9r, super value) It seems to be back to the taste of childhood. 📖 Finally, I walked into the Paper Sound Bookstore, which is small and quiet, and has a good taste in book selection. I stayed here for a while, flipping through books and flipping through my mood.
