Geumsan Boseoksa Temple. Ginkgo Tree. Address: San 5, Seokdong-ri, Nam-myeon, Geumsan-gun, Chungnam. Inquiries: 041 753 1523 Founded by Monk Jogu during the Silla period. The temple is named Boseoksa because the Buddha statue was cast with gold mined from the mountain in front of the temple during its founding. At the entrance of the temple, there is a ginkgo tree over a thousand years old, standing 34 meters tall and with a circumference of 10.72 meters. It is said that Monk Jogu planted six ginkgo trees in a circle with his five disciples to symbolize the Six Perfections (Paramitas) in Buddhism, which represent the practice of virtue. In 1945, 1950, and 1992, the tree is said to have shaken and wept whenever significant events occurred in the country. Therefore, every October, a ritual is held for the ginkgo tree. It is believed to have a sacred energy that grants one wish, so people hang wish papers and pray before and after the ritual. The ginkgo tree sheds its leaves earlier than others, so it was not seen. In early September, the temple entrance is also adorned with blooming spider lilies, so it is worth a visit. Enjoy free coffee for visitors.

It was Seollal holiday so there were a lot of people, and it was hard to get a seat, but when I finally got a seat, all the desserts were sold out, which was like a bolt from the blue😭 I couldn't eat Dolharbang Bread, but the signature Udo peanut latte was so delicious that I didn't regret it😁 And the coffee cup was so pretty I kept looking at it. It’s not super tall or overly dramatic, but that’s what makes it kinda perfect for a relaxed half-day adventure. The trail starts gently and slowly winds its way up with some decent forest cover, birds chirping, and a breeze that just hits right. Not too steep, but enough to get your blood moving. The temple is nestled right up against the mountain, surrounded by tall trees and the sound of birds doing their thing. There’s this old, calm energy to the place, like it’s been watching over the valley forever. Super grounding. The hike up wasn’t too crazy, just enough to get your legs moving and make arriving at the temple feel rewarding. The trail itself is super scenic, lots of shade, trickling streams, and random stone lanterns peeking out from the woods. At the temple, I chilled for a bit, soaked in the quiet, and just breathed. No rush, no crowds, just stillness. Bonus points for the mountain views in the background—it’s a total postcard moment. If you’re ever looking for a quiet nature escape with a spiritual twist, Sinansa’s your spot. Peaceful, pretty, and low-key perfect.

#summervacay Took a little adventure to the Geumsan Wolyeongsan Suspension Bridge and wow, what a fun surprise. The bridge is suuuper long and hangs high over this crazy scenic valley, but don’t worry, it’s sturdy (I may have tested it by jumping a little, no regrets). The walk up to it is pretty chill, some light uphill but nothing wild, and then boom, you’re standing on this epic bridge with views for days. Mountains, forest, river below, total nature flex. The wind makes it sway juuust enough to feel kinda exciting but not scary. Unless you hate heights... then maybe hold someone’s hand. Took way too many pics, because honestly, every angle was giving. There’s also a nice little trail loop nearby if you wanna keep walking after. Not a hard hike, more like a really cool scenic stroll. If you're in Geumsan and down for a little thrill with a view, this bridge is a must. Total main character moment.

One early autumn day, when the crescent moon was clearly hanging in the sky, I visited Geumsan, South Chungcheong Province. It was to go to Stay Interview Geumsan, where a stay and a café are operated together. Although Southeast Asian style is becoming more common these days, if you go to Geumsan, you should only see this one place, but it is worth experiencing, so I recommend it. As the road name 'Hyuyangnim-ro' suggests, it is located in a quiet rural village with cool mountain scenery and clean air flowing. In front of Stay & Cafe is the beautiful Daedun Mountain and the clear Surak Valley, and the bungalows are clustered together around them, creating an exotic atmosphere. In particular, it was so nice to grill meat here while looking out over the cool valley... it was like a paradise. The guest room was also a cozy space where I could rest while looking out over the lush nature, so I spent the day feeling comfortable.

#ThailandFlightEvent I recommend the food I ate while moving from Geumsan to Ansan. First, I ate walnut cookies and potatoes at Geumsan Rest Stop, and then I moved and had Shabu Shabu around dinnertime. Shabu Shabu was served in stages and I could eat freely afterwards, which was nice. For dessert, I stopped by nearby Tous Les Jours and finished with bread~

#aprilblooms Maninsan Forest Retreat (만인산 자연휴양림) is a lovely place located on the edge of Daejeon and Geumsan, a nearby area. The little houses in the woods are really clean and look nice outside. They are also spaced far apart, which makes it quiet and private, perfect for relaxing and breathing in the fresh air. It's a truly peaceful spot! The retreat offers different paths to walk on, including easy paths and nature trails through the trees, as well as bigger trails for hiking. The entrance to the retreat is easy to find. However, to get your keys, you need to drive up to the main building at the very top. Follow the nice, cool road, and you'll see the main building with a big yard. The office is on the first floor where you pick up your keys before heading down to your little house. The little houses in the woods are charming. There are five of these houses on one side, and seven more across the road, all with plenty of space around them. Exploring the retreat, you'll find well-maintained wooden paths along the forest nature trail leading towards the Maninsan rest stop, making for easy walks. There are also other paths and hiking trails behind the houses, where you can discover a special old spot where a king's baby was once buried. The walking paths are nice and clean. You'll also find beautiful pink flowers called azaleas blooming. Finally, you might see red berries from a spindle tree. They're shaped like little hearts! If you're interested in visiting other places nearby, the Sangso-dong Forest Bathing Area in Daejeon and the Chubu Chueotang Village, known for its delicious fish soup, are recommended. Overall, Maninsan Natural Recreation Forest is a fantastic place for a quiet escape into nature. With its comfortable houses and various trails, it's a great destination for a relaxing break. #forest #naturelovers

The temple bell inherited the form of the Silla bell, but gradually became smaller in size, reaching around 40 cm. Jeongbyeong was an offering tool for offering clean water to the Buddha, and was made of metal or porcelain. It shows the most sophisticated form and decoration among Buddhist items. After Joseon was founded in 1392, the country was divided into eight provinces, and the Geumsan area became part of Jeolla-do. The year after the foundation of the country, after Taejo's placenta was enshrined in Maninsan Mountain in Geumsan, the Jinsan area was promoted to Jinju-gun, and in 1413 (the 13th year of King Taejong's reign), it was confirmed as Jinsan-gun. In Geumsan, independence demonstrations took place in various places from March 23 to 31, and the number of participants reached several hundred, but they were dispersed by the Japanese military suppression. Although the March 1st Movement failed, it became an opportunity for Japan to change its policy toward dividing the national spirit, and it had a great influence on the national movements in other colonial countries such as India, Egypt, and Turkey. After 1905, as the craze for modern education began nationwide, the first modern school, Geumshin School (now Geumsan Central Elementary School), was established in Geumsan Guest House in March 1907. Following this, Geumsan established the Christian Simgwang School in Sangok-ri, the private Myeongseong School in Pingchon-ri, Burimyeon, the private Jeonam School (now Jeonam Elementary School) in Jewonyeoksaek, and Gyeongang Private School in Geumseong-myeon. In Jinsan, the private Chuyeong School (now Jinsan Elementary School) was established at the site of Jinsanhyanggyo Myeongnyundang, and the Sarim Yukyeong School was established in Jibangri. However, most of them were closed due to lack of funds. During the Japanese colonial period, in order to eradicate the national spirit and foster savings workers, the private Geumsan School, Jeonam School, and Chuyeong School were converted to public schools, and later, according to the 1-myeon-1-school policy, 15 elementary educational institutions were established in Geumsan. In 1933, the first vocational school, Geumsan Agricultural Practical School (now Geumsan Industrial High School), was established, and in 1945, it was approved as Geumsan Public Agricultural High School. Based on the establishment and settlement of modern educational institutions, Geumsan currently has 16 elementary schools, 8 middle schools, and 4 high schools. 'Gunhyeonjido' is a map drawn with 'bu, mok, gun, and hyeon' as the basic units of local administration during the Joseon Dynasty. The development of 'gunhyeonjido', which was made with 'gunhyeon' as the unit, is the most significant characteristic of map production in the late Joseon Dynasty. The increase in the production of maps, the diversification of users, and the external changes in map production techniques and map forms are confirmed. Gunhyeonjido can be divided into various types according to the standard. The scale is different for each gunhyeon, so the direction, distance, area, and location are not accurate, but they are effective in conveying the local society's scene, such as the natural environment and the history, society, and economic content of the region.
