Wander the streets of Guangzhou and discover hidden treasures! 🕵️♂️
Guangzhou really has a lot of hidden and interesting streets! It is worth exploring in detail! Today I’d like to introduce my one-day City Walk around Beijing Road.
Route: Nanyue Palace Museum, the former site of the Zhongshan Municipal Library, the main road of Beijing Road, the United Bookstore, the Big Buddha Temple, the ruins of the Nanyue Kingdom canal on the first floor of the basement of Guangbai Department Store, the Lujiang Academy [now the Lingnan Financial Museum], the Yaozhou Ruins, the Gloria 225 Concept Club [Leslie Cheung Film Exhibition], the former site of the Guangdong District Committee of the Communist Party of China
Nanyue Palace Museum: Well worth a visit! The entire exhibition hall is delicately laid out, and you can also experience visiting the tomb yourself.
The entrance of the old library site is very beautiful, and there stands a bronze statue of Mr. Sun Yat-sen at the entrance. But now it has been turned into a small reading area for children, and you can only take a quick look around it.
The main road of Beijing Road is very busy, with a wide range of shops on both sides and many preserved sites and cultural relics on display in the middle of the road.
The United Bookstore is very spacious. I really like the way the books on the second floor are categorized, which cleverly combines Chinese history and world history! The third floor is something I have never seen before. It has a huge number of comics and extra books, which is quite shocking. Friends who like it should not miss it.
The Big Buddha Temple is quite commercialized, with people coming and going bustling about. From the outside, it is even impossible to tell that this is a temple. It is a bit like Hongyadong in Chongqing. It was also the first time I saw electronic payment for donations. Perhaps the principle of "hiding in the city" is not suitable for the site selection of temples.
I searched for the remains of the canal for a long time, but to my surprise, it was on the basement floor of the shopping mall next door! I am very moved and admire everyone's wisdom. Cultural relics protection and commercial development have been perfectly combined. Perhaps this thousand-year-old canal has been silently protecting this land underground from ancient times to the present.
Lujiang Academy is a typical representative of the Lingnan academy cluster. It was first opened as the Lingnan Financial Museum. Friends who are very interested in finance and investment can go there ~ and you can also experience for yourself what it feels like to carry one million RMB in your hand, hahahaha!
Turning out of the alley, you can see the Yaozhou ruins, a very small garden. The nine stones in the pond are all authentic. The water in the pool is turquoise. The garden is very quiet. The towering tree next to it is at least two or three hundred years old. It is a very long-lived tree.
Returning to the main road, continue walking forward and you will see Gloria 225, a striking and dazzling red building that is the same age as the Republic. I was very surprised that I happened to catch my brother’s light and shadow exhibition, which was free to visit. I bought a commemorative canvas bag to tell my brother that I visited him.
On the way back to the subway station, I saw a unique, small and exquisite building. After entering, I found that it was the former site of the Guangdong District Committee of the Communist Party of China. There are not many people and it is very quiet. Even with a cursory visit, you can understand the glory of Guangdong.
It’s my first time wandering around Guangzhou, and I can already feel the cultural heritage and historical accumulation of this city. It is a very charming place!
