🍜 Self-reported review: Gin Udon – Fresh Noodle Udon Shop in Chiang Mai
⸻
🌾 Shop atmosphere & experience upon entering
The atmosphere of Gin Udon is a warm and simple atmosphere in the heart of Chiang Mai. It has a Japanese style. The front is an open kitchen where you can see the chefs kneading dough and rolling fresh noodles according to orders—seeing every step of the way is amazing and makes you feel confident that every bowl is really good.
There are seats at the bar in front of the kitchen and small tables that are not crowded. The staff are friendly and provide good service. They take care of you. It feels warm like you are eating at a Japanese friend’s house.

🍲 Menus I tried & my feelings
1. Mentaiko Cream Udon (~299 baht)
This is the signature dish that they pick up the most. The udon noodles are chewy in a creamy mentaiko cream sauce that is slightly salty and oily. It is cut with seaweed, spring onions, and butter. It goes well with the crunchy side dishes. Although some people may feel that “A bit salty or a bit rich” but overall it’s really great
2. Tempura Udon (clear soup + shrimp tempura)
Everything is perfect: the bone soup is aromatic and not too bland, the noodles are soft and chewy. The tempura is fried hot, really crispy, not oily, the shrimps are big, the skin is very crispy, eating them together is the best
3. Prawn Tempura on Rice
For those who focus on fried food, this menu is good. Full of ingredients, big, juicy shrimp, good for those who love fried food
A big bowl makes you feel full, definitely worth the price
