The ropeway ride took about ten minutes, and through the glass windows, I enjoyed the scenic views as the majestic landscape of Mount Kinka gradually unfolded before my eyes. The Challenge of the Hiking Route After reaching the upper ropeway station, I began my hike up the mountain. Although the distance to Gifu Castle was not long, it required some physical effort. The path was lined with dense trees and colorful flowers, prompting me to stop and savor the gifts of nature. Along the way, I encountered other hikers, and we encouraged each other, cheering each other on. As the altitude increased, the path became steeper, and I felt the allure and challenge of the exercise. My breathing quickened, my heart rate increased, but I also felt the joy of achieving my goal. You can spend half a day wandering around Gifu Castle. Driving from a distance, I saw Gifu Castle sitting on the top of the mountain. Here you need to take a mountain cable car up the mountain and enjoy a panoramic view of the city. The road leading to Gifu Castle is uphill. It was a bit hard for me who doesn’t often climb mountains. But the hard work is worth it once you reach the mountain. After visiting Gifu Castle, it was almost noon. There is only one restaurant here, I looked at the menu and thought it was good, so I ate on the mountain. The view is very good, with large glass windows. It is really pleasant to eat the Hida beef set meal while overlooking the beautiful scenery below the mountain. After eating, I was ready to leave. When you see the squirrel garden, you should not miss it if you are already here. The park is not big but you can interact with and feed the squirrels. It was quite surprising and a very interesting interaction. Finally, take the cable car back to the parking lot. There is a big park next to it. Just take a walk around... It’s worth setting aside time to visit here.

One of the 100 famous castles in Japan, Gifu Castle is located in the Kamiyama Ancient City. You basically have to take a paid cable car to get there. The round trip is 1,100 yen per person, which is definitely not cheap. This castle is listed as one of the "100 Famous Castles" probably because Oda Nobunaga, one of the three great warlords of Japan, once lived here. This castle was called "Inabayama Castle" before the reign of Oda Nobunaga. It was built on the top of Mt. Kinka in 1201, but it was abandoned for the first time after the death of the first lord. In 1460, the castle was rebuilt by a new lord, and in 1567, when Oda Nobunaga conquered Inabayama Castle, it was renamed "#39 Gifu Castle". After the war in 1600, Tokugawa Ieyasu decided to abandon the castle, and the new daimyo built "Kana Castle" using the turrets and castle tower of "#39 Gifu Castle". The castle was rebuilt again in 1910, but it was burned down in 1943. It was rebuilt for the second time in 1956. Yamashiro is an important stronghold located in the east. Although it is famous for being an impregnable city, it has actually been captured seven times in history. The flat area on the top of the mountain is small, and the water stored in the well comes from rainwater. Therefore, it is essentially extremely disadvantageous in facing the long-term war of siege by sea of ​​manpower in the late Warring States Period. During the time of Oda Nobunaga, the top of the mountain was where Nobunaga's family and hostages lived, and it was a very beautiful sight when viewed from the castle town. Therefore, this city was not built for fighting, but basically served as a living space for the city lord and a city for people to appreciate.

Gifu Castle (岐阜城, Gifu-jō) is a castle located in the city of Gifu, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Along with Mount Kinka and the Nagara River, it is one of the main symbols of the city. Gifu Castle was first built by the Nikaidō clan between 1201 and 1204 during the Kamakura Period. Originally called Inabayama Castle (稲葉山城 Inabayama-jō), Gifu Castle has gone through a great number of repairs over the course of several generations. Even though it was famous as a physically powerful castle, it was once taken over by a mere sixteen men. During the Sengoku period a samurai by the name of Takenaka Hanbei went to the castle, ostensibly to visit his sick brother. In reality, he went to the castle not to visit his brother but to kill Saitō Tatsuoki, the lord of castle. When Hanbei struck at him, Tatsuoki was very confused—believing an enemy army had come to attack him—and fled. Thus, Hanbei obtained Inabayama Castle with relative ease. Later, Hanbei returned the castle to his lord, but Tatsuoki had lost an immeasurable amount of reputation and honor due to his perceived cowardly flight from the castle. In 1567, Oda Nobunaga launched an attack on Mino Province from Sunomata Castle, led his forces across the Kiso River, and marched straight to the castle town of Inoguchi (now Gifu city) attracting the support of many Saito retainers along the way. Nobunaga laid siege to Inabayama Castle on 13 September. Even though the defenders were demoralized to see the banners of Saito retainers among the attacking army, the mountaintop castle was still in a nearly impregnable position. The siege took about two weeks. Near the end of the siege, Nobunaga's retainer Kinoshita Tōkichirō led a small party up the steep cliffs of Mount Kinka, entered the castle from the unguarded rear, and opened the front gates, allowing the attacking forces to enter. After Tatsuoki was defeated, Nobunaga claimed the castle and made it his primary base-of-operations. Nobunaga renamed the stronghold "Gifu Castle," following an example set by an ancient Chinese practice. Nobunaga then proceeded to renovate the castle into a far more impressive and grandiose structure than its previous incarnation. Luis Frois, a renowned Jesuit Missionary from Portugal, was personally invited by Nobunaga to visit the castle. After a short stay in Gifu, Frois praised the castle's extraordinary beauty. The Battle of Gifu Castle in 1600 served as a prelude to both the Battle of Sekigahara and the destruction of Gifu Castle in the same year. It is said that in the past, there was a saying that "there was a beautiful person in the world." Then Oda Nobunaga took it and used it as a base, and eventually unified Japan. If you have been planting a long history of Nobunagas hometown or the history of the Japanese Warring States, this station must not be missed. Ascending to the distance, the crystal-clear Changliang River flows through the city center. It is a natural and rich city. It is no wonder that it is a battleground for the military. The hotel we stayed in was also clearly visible from Yucheng.
