Geumsansa Temple Overview It was founded during the reign of King Beop of Baekje during the Three Kingdoms period and is said to have been rebuilt by Jinpyo during the Unified Silla period. It is famous as the place where King Gyeon Hwon, who founded Later Baekje, was confined by his eldest son, Singeom. During the Imjin War, the entire temple was burned down by the Japanese army, and major records were lost. It was rebuilt during the reign of King Injo of Joseon and remains to this day. 2. Representative Artifact: National Treasure No. 62, Mireukjeon It has a typical three-story wooden pagoda style, and it is said that Jinpyo originally enshrined an iron Mireuk here. Geumsansa Temple (Geumsansa: 금산사), also known as the Golden Mountain Temple, is a Buddhist temple located at the foot of Moaksan Mountain in Moaksan National Park. It was built in 600 AD during the Baekje Kingdom. The journey is not as difficult as you might think. From the Christian church in front of Jeonju Hanok Village, cross the street to Pungnammun Gate. Walk past the gate until you find a bus stop in front of a flower shop. The bus stop has a digital timetable that shows real-time schedules. Take bus number 79 and enjoy the scenic ride until the last stop. Then walk past various restaurants, or you can stop for a meal. Many restaurants here specialize in Jeonju-style bibimbap. Our group enjoyed the scenery as we walked until we found the entrance. The ticket costs about 3000 won per person. As you walk, you'll see beautiful trees and a shaded area where people can rest before continuing to the temple. Personally, I love the tranquility and the surrounding nature. The temple grounds are vast with beautiful flowers, especially the creeping pine trees, which must be very old to grow so beautifully. We enjoyed the serene Baekje-style art. I've visited this temple 2-3 times. Once, I had the chance to pray and make merit, and somehow, the staff took us to pray under the base of the Buddha statue. I admire the craftsmanship of the Buddha statue; it has remained beautiful and strong over the years. I heard that if you visit in March, the entrance will be filled with cherry blossoms, so I plan to visit again. The temple has a souvenir shop like most temples, but what caught my eye were the beautiful real stone bracelets, such as Tiger Eye, Moonstone, and Carnelian, at affordable prices. So, I bought some as gifts for good luck.

I visited here for a quick photoshoot today, and it was the prettiest autumn foliage I've seen this year. I lost track of time here, and it was so pretty that my schedule got delayed. From ginkgo trees to maple trees, metasequoias, and zelkova trees, all the beautiful autumn foliage was gathered here, and it was so pretty even when it was still colored. The autumn foliage at Geumsansa Temple in Gimje has almost completely changed color, so it seems like it will be so pretty all week long! Geumsunsa is a 600 year old traditional Korean Buddhist Temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, surrounded by beautiful nature in the Bukhansan National Park which is very accessible from any places in Seoul. The wooden Mireukjeon is the only three-story Buddhist temple in Korea and is said to be the largest in the world. Among the three Buddhas, the Mireuk Buddha is 11.82m tall and the Buddha statues on the left and right are 8.8m tall. It is said to be beautiful with cherry blossoms in the spring, playing in the valley water in the summer, autumn leaves in the fall, and the snow-covered landscape in the winter. It is also the unfortunate place where King Gyeon Hwon of Later Baekje was forcibly imprisoned by his eldest son, Singeom. It is said that the drama Taegeon Wang Geon-dye Gyeon Hwon's final years of imprisonment and escape from Geumsansa Temple were filmed here, making it even more famous. I recommend parking at the Moaksan Parking Lot (free) and going. You can enjoy playing in the water in the valley on the way and resting on the flat ground (free), so it would be better to prepare a simple picnic and go. Geumsansa Temple parking lot is paid.
