🍕 Disappointed Return to a Once-Loved Spot – Geographer Café, Melaka
More than a decade ago, I stepped into Geographer Café in Melaka and was greeted with warm hospitality and an inviting atmosphere. It became one of those places that lived fondly in memory—friendly service, laid-back vibes, and good food. So naturally, I returned with high hopes.
Unfortunately, the experience this time around left much to be desired. The service was shockingly cold—no smiles, no warmth, not even a basic acknowledgment of our orders. It felt transactional and robotic, which was the opposite of what I remembered.
The pizza we ordered was still good, maintaining the standard from years past. But my ayam masak merah was a disaster. The chicken had a strong stale odor and taste—definitely not from being undercooked, but from being possibly less-than-fresh or left out too long before cooking. I gave the feedback, expecting at least some form of apology. Instead, I was told it was cooked fresh and delivered that day—an answer that didn’t address the issue. As someone who cooks often, I knew what I tasted.
Though the server did offer a dish replacement, the damage was already done. I politely declined. Still, there was no apology—just an indifferent shrug. The other dishes like the spaghetti and fish and chips were fine, but it’s hard to enjoy a meal when the atmosphere is so lacking in care or sincerity.
I walked out disappointed, not just from the food but from a place I once highly regarded.
