[Gifu] Ogaki, the birthplace of the Narrow Road to the Deep North
#Spring0yenTrip
Ogaki was a place where you could feel the atmosphere of a quiet town and a water town. Ogaki Castle, located a short walk from the station, is a small castle ruin, but has a historical presence, and the view from the castle tower is surprisingly open, allowing you to see the surrounding townscape. There is a moat around the castle, making it a perfect place for a leisurely stroll. Ogaki is also the end point of the "Hosomichi of the Deep North," and when I visited the Oku-no-Hosomichi Musubi no Chi Memorial Museum, I learned that Matsuo Basho ended his journey here and was able to feel Basho's footsteps. At the museum, Basho's journey and poems are on display, and I was able to learn at length while feeling his thoughts. Walking through the town of Ogaki, I was able to immerse myself in its history while imagining the scenery that Basho saw, and I felt a deeper meaning that the Oku-no-Hosomichi ended here. The scenery with its canals and ponds exuded an atmosphere that seemed like it could have appeared in a Basho haiku, and time passed peacefully.
