Shanghai in fall
#100WaysOfTravel Experiencing fall in Shanghai is a delightful blend of vibrant colors and cultural richness. As the weather cools, the city’s parks and tree-lined streets transform into a tapestry of red, orange, and yellow foliage. Places like Fuxing Park and Century Park become perfect spots for leisurely strolls, where the crunch of fallen leaves accompanies the crisp air.
The autumn season also brings various festivals and events. The Mid-Autumn Festival, with its colorful lanterns and mooncakes, adds a festive touch, celebrating family reunions and the harvest moon. Exploring local markets during this time offers a chance to savor seasonal treats.
Culinary delights abound in the fall as well. From warm bowls of soup noodles to hearty dishes featuring seasonal ingredients, Shanghai’s food scene is vibrant and inviting. Don’t miss out on street food options, which come alive in the cooler months.

Night stroll in Xintiandi area
Cor! is a super cute coffee shop ☕️ in Fuxing Middle Rd. Location seems quite small, but it’s actually spacious inside. You can either sit in a small terrace enjoying the hot summer night, or inside to keep the heat away (or run from the rain). Location is a bit difficult to find, as entrance is just a door along the street. However, door is tiny so the magic stays inside.
Ambience is quite relaxing, gotta love the bird houses hanging outside with the plants 🪴 . Decoration inside is also cute. Better to go during afternoon or evening, outside decoration can’t be fully appreciated during the night.
Must say, this is not an ordinary coffee shop, as you can also get wine, many dessert 🧁 and savory snacks, and cold drinks (coffee based drinks and cocktails 🍹 too). Decoration of drinks and desserts is super cute. Seems like a very good option for a quick brunch.

Shanghai has many quaint neighborhood parks which provide a nice respite for residents and tourists alike. I had the good fortune of stumbling upon the charming Fuxing Park on an early autumn's night - the sunset is really captivating, and the park was an oasis of calm despite being in the centre of the city. All around you see elderly strolling or line dancing and families just hanging out.

Century-old French-style park in the city center - Fuxing Park.
This is a century-old park in Shanghai, commonly known as the French Park, and one of the few European-style parks in Shanghai. During the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, it became a French concession. Later, the French Public Affairs Bureau decided to build a park here. It was designed and built by French designers. Initially, Chinese people were not allowed to enter the park. Until the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, it was renamed Fuxing Park and opened to the public, implying national rejuvenation. After the liberation of Shanghai, the name Fuxing Park has been used to this day. Now the park has a rose garden, a sunken flower bed, a rockery waterfall and other landscapes. The park is rich in vegetation and beautiful scenery.

Walk around today's Fuxing Park
On July 26, 2024, after work, there was a light rain, making the weather cooler. So, when passing by Fuxing Park, I decided to go in and take a good look around.
Entering from Fuxing Middle Road, there are many century-old plane trees.
Walking north, you are surrounded by French romance.
The lotus pond, hexagonal pavilion, and rockery are still there. The flower bed beside the large lawn in Fuxing Park is very unique.
Naturally, I had to take a stroll around the Rose Garden and Spring Square.
I also revisited the statues of Marx and Engels.
From a distance, the place where I used to go for karaoke has become an 'INS Park'. Next to the sunken flower bed, there is a row of interesting shops. Five Flower Horse by ma-ia-ki (INS Fuxing Park Store) is just one of the many interesting places to discover.

The Century Park 'drops' a dreamy 'planet', no ticket needed for checking in. It's probably better to visit at night for a more spectacular view and better photos, but it's also nice during the day. This radiant planet exhibition lasts until June 27, with lights on at 19:00 every day, no ticket required. Whether you come during the day or at night, you can experience the unique planetary romance of Shanghai. The installation is inspired by artist Yang Song's work 'Falling Planet'. The work uses lighting to create three huge planetary installations. Integrating installation art with the environment, it complements the INS playground across from it, combining dynamic and static elements, making it very suitable for a post-meal walk to aid digestion. Moreover, Fuxing Park is really a large park in the core area of the city. The water lilies and lotuses in the park are in full bloom, looking vibrant and attractive. The fountains inside are also incredibly beautiful and worth appreciating. A walk around the park is really good for digestion, perfect for those who want to maintain their figure after a big meal. There's also the INS inside, a new commercial complex covering an area of 20,000 square meters, which uses esports as an entry point and adds music, performances, and night economy to create a new landmark for young consumers. Fuxing Park is the only park in Shanghai that retains the French classical style and is a masterpiece of the blend of Chinese and Western garden culture in modern Shanghai.

Shanghai | There is a rare human vacation zone in Fuxing Park - an Instagram paradise
🚗 Fuxing Park is located at No. 105 Yandang Road, Shanghai, bordered by Chongqing South Road to the east, Fuxing Middle Road to the south, Sinan Road to the west, and the Science Hall to the north. The park has four main entrances and exits; the south gate is at the corner of Fuxing Middle Road and Chongqing South Road; the north gate is on Yandang Road; the west gate leads to Gaolan Road; the east gate leads to Chongqing South Road. In 1995, the total area of the park was 88,900 square meters. Various carnivals and concerts are often held in the park. Fuxing Park is the only garden in Shanghai that retains the French classical style and is also a masterpiece of the blend of Chinese and Western garden culture in modern Shanghai.
🚗 At first glance, I was a bit surprised to see this sign, but after going in and taking a closer look, I realized it was originally a stand-up comedy venue. I've seen the big shows before, and basically everyone was there, just not sure about the schedule. Stand-up comedy has been quite popular in recent years, and ticket prices have indeed risen with the tide. Friends who are interested can come and have fun.

This is a really well kept retreat in the busy city and a perfect place to spend either a few minutes or a number of hours relaxing. There’s loads of seating and a good mix of grass areas and flower beds with a number of statues giving plenty to admire. City Park Guide | Fuxing Park
Fuxing Park was established in 1909, originally known as Gu's Residence Park, commonly referred to as the French Park. It was primarily designed and constructed by the French, which is why the park's overall style and many of its layouts have a European flair. The most notable feature is the park's symmetrical layout, which is grid-like and patterned, featuring flowers, trees, pavilions, and ponds.
Today, Fuxing Park has become an urban green lung, with over 1,700 ancient plane trees providing shade. Inside the park, there are attractions such as the Marx statue, the rose garden, a large lawn, and a fountain, and nearby are Sinan Mansions, Xintiandi, and Tianzifang...
The INS Fuxing Playground, formerly known as the KTV, is now a nightlife guide for Generation Z, with nightclubs gathering. At two o'clock in the morning, it reaches its peak of energy. The daytime Fuxing Park with its lawns, rockeries, gardens? Ponds, has always been a public urban space for citizens to relax and engage in activities. The century-old Fuxing Park presents a completely different scene with the alternation of day and night.

Shanghai city center! The Rose Garden launches on May Day, ushering in a sea of flowers
🌺Every year during the May Day holiday in Shanghai, people look forward to the grand springtime of this Rose Garden. If you're citywalking on a holiday or passing by near Xintiandi, or just touring around, it's worth visiting to enjoy the flowers, and it's usually possible to avoid the crowds.

Fuxing Park: The only French classical style garden in Shanghai
Fuxing Park, located at No. 105 Yandang Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai, is adjacent to Chongqing South Road to the east, Fuxing Middle Road to the south, Sinan Road to the west, and the boundary with the Science Hall to the north. Fuxing Park is the only garden in Shanghai that retains the French classical style, and it is also a masterpiece of the blend of Chinese and Western garden culture in modern Shanghai.
In the 1880s, the original site of Fuxing Park was a fertile field with a small village named Gujiazha. At that time, a family named Gu built a private small garden here, which people called "Gujiazha Garden", which was the initial form of Fuxing Park. In October 1844, after the Qing government signed the "Huangpu Treaty" with France, this place was included in the scope of the French concession. In 1908, the French Concession Public Directors decided to rebuild the Gujiazha Garden into a park, designed by French horticulturist Papot according to French garden features. On July 14, 1909, the French National Day, the park was opened to the public, known as Gujiazha Park, commonly known as French Park. The overall style and many layouts of the park have a European flavor. The most prominent feature is that the park layout is symmetrical, grid-like, patterned, and excels in flowers, trees, pavilions, and mountain ponds. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War (New Year's Day in 1946), the park was renamed Fuxing Park, meaning "national rejuvenation".
The gardening style of Fuxing Park is a combination of regular and natural layouts. The north and middle parts are mainly regular layouts, with felt flower beds, central fountains, rose flower beds, and main roads in the north-south and east-west directions. The southwest part is mainly natural layout, with rockery area, lotus pond, stream, winding path, and large lawn. It integrates Chinese and Western styles, highlighting the French regular gardening style. The flower beds here use a sunken style, which is now affectionately called the sunken bed garden. Using the height difference of the ground to raise people's viewpoint, you can better overlook the overall effect of the flower bed, which is a major feature of the park.
