[Yatsugatake Alpaca Farm in Nagano] Unexpectedly relaxing
There are more than 20 alpacas at the Yatsugatake Alpaca Ranch. I had the impression that alpacas were scary because they spit on their enemies, but the aggressive males were allowed to graze inside a wooden fence, and only the gentle females and babies were allowed to roam freely in the open space. I was able to feed and interact with them directly, which was very soothing.
The keepers were also very friendly. One of the keepers told me that the older an alpaca's hair gets, the harder it gets. The baby's hair is really fluffy and feels great, so be sure to touch it and compare it.
The alpaca ranch is about 10 minutes from Suwa Minami IC, and I stopped by on my way to Lake Shirakaba and Venus Line. I only stopped by to adjust my schedule, so to be honest, I didn't have high expectations, but I was unexpectedly very satisfied.
I wasn't able to see them this time, but I heard that they also hold an alpaca derby, so I'd like to visit next time.
