[Yamanashi, Lake Kawaguchi - Listen to the birds singing and enjoy music boxes at the Kawaguchiko Music and Forest Museum, surrounded by flowers]
We enjoyed music boxes and music at the Kawaguchiko Music and Forest Museum, located on the shores of Lake Kawaguchi in Yamanashi Prefecture.
Japan's summer resorts are dotted with private museums of music boxes and antique dolls that serve as tourist and entertainment service facilities, but this museum's collection of automata and music boxes from the 17th to 20th centuries, collected from Switzerland, Germany, and France, is a valuable collection that combines entertainment and academics with a certain degree of systematic content.
The museum offers a quality and quantity that is second only to the Horie Music Box Museum in Kobe, where you can learn about part of the lineage of craftsmen's handicrafts, such as the automatic instruments that masters such as Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and Haydn entrusted to preserve the music they created for history, and the reproducing pianos that Vladimir Horowitz and others generously cooperated to pass on their virtuoso playing techniques to future generations.
You can also get a good sense of the fairy-tale-like "hobbies" that were popular in the aristocratic culture of each era, and the relaxing atmosphere these people spent their time in.
The museum regularly hosts concerts featuring an automatic organ, automatic instruments, and opera singing, as well as concerts in the restaurant, which are sure to be a highlight.
