It was a winter trip to Gifu, Japan with my partner. Gifu in winter is a magical escape filled with stunning scenery and cultural treasures 😍 We started our journey in Takayama, a charming city surrounded by the Japanese Alps. The preserved Sanmachi Suji district was a highlight, with its traditional wooden 🪵 buildings, sake breweries, and shops. Walking through the snow-covered streets felt like stepping back in time. The ambiance was perfect for photography, especially with the warm glow of lanterns at dusk. The sunrise and sunset shots from here were spectacular, and the peaceful vibe made it one of the most memorable stops of our trip. Yunoshimakan Hotel is located in Gero City, Gifu Prefecture. It is an old 5-star hotel. This hotel was also once a hotel where the Japanese royal family stayed. The hotel is located on a hill, but don't worry about transportation because there is a shuttle service from JR Station every now and then. This is the second time I have stayed at Gero Onsen Ogawaya. Ogawaya is a large, established hotel. Every time I stay at the Yuraji Annex. Yuraji Annex seems to be a annex built later on the hotel. You can hear the oracle of Kaeru Daimyojin by offering coins. 🐸 Shrine Features and Blessings • Origin of the Name: A humorous name combining "Gero" (the name of the area) and the frog's croaking sound "Gero Gero." • Deity: The shrine is dedicated to "Kaeru Daimyojin," a rare frog deity in Japan. • Blessings: Associated with the word "Kaeru" (meaning "return" or "frog"), the shrine offers various blessings such as "safe return," "rejuvenation," and "money return." • Oracle: By offering coins, visitors can hear the oracle of Kaeru Daimyojin, which is a popular feature. • Decorations: Frog designs are incorporated throughout the shrine, including stone lanterns and water basins, making it a must-visit spot for frog enthusiasts.

I visited Gero Onsen in Gifu Prefecture. This is Onsenji Temple. From the temple grounds, located at the top of 173 stone steps, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Gero Onsen town. In front of the main hall, there is a statue of Yakushi Nyorai called "Yugake Yakushi," and hot spring water gushes out from its base. Be sure to check it out! The origin of Onsenji Temple is said to be tied to a legend where, when the original hot spring source dried up, a white heron indicated the location of a new hot spring. A statue of Yakushi Nyorai was then enshrined at that spot. For those who find climbing the stairs difficult, there is a slope on the right side that allows you to skip about two-thirds of the steps.
