Waldfriedhof Dahlem is an oasis in the southwest of Berlin. This cemetery, built in 1913, breaks the solemn impression of traditional cemeteries. The winding paths and native oak forests are cleverly woven to form a breathing memorial space. Local residents prefer to jog here when the morning mist has not yet dissipated, stepping on the century-old gravel road through the misty forest of monuments. There are many cultural imprints hidden deep in the cemetery: the curved memorial wall designed by German New Objectivist architect Hugo Haring echoes the natural growth of the trees; the black basalt tombstone where the film master Fassbinder rests is often left by fans in the shape of film boxes. Art lovers will stop for the sculptured tombstones of various shapes - real tits resting on the wings of bronze angels, and pocket watches that are still moving are embedded in the marble scroll sculptures. This cemetery, called the "Talking Forest" by Berliners, tells the story of the eternal dialogue between life and nature with annual rings.
