Uncover the Unforgettable Beauty of Mt Fitz Roy
#2024TravelReview
El Chalten is located in Los Glaciares National Park, a World Heritage Site in Argentina, and was voted second in the “Best cities in the world to know” by Lonely Planet. Chalten is the Aboriginal name for Mount Fitz Roy - the smoking mountain. So the town is named after Mt Fitz Roy, which shows that the town has benefited a lot from Mt Fitz Roy!
The town of El Chalten is surrounded by mountains and has more than a dozen beautiful hiking routes. There are more hikers visiting the town than local residents. As the name suggests, it is a city built for sightseeing and a paradise for hikers. Although the town is small, it has everything; supermarkets, bakeries, and multi-cultural restaurants are all here.
Fitz Roy Peak (Spanish: Monte Fitz Roy) is located in the Southern Patagonia Ice Field in South America, at the border between Argentina and Chile (3,359 meters above sea level). The mountains are steep and rugged, shrouded in clouds all year round, like a fairyland. The glacial lake "Laguna de los Tres" formed by glacial snow water in front of Mount Fitz Roy is surrounded by clouds and mist all year round. From a distance, Mount Fitz Roy looks like a smoking mountain.
There are many routes to choose from when climbing Mount Fitz Roy, but the starting point is the town of El Chaltén. It is quite convenient and does not require a shuttle bus or transportation. You can just walk out of the hotel to the trailhead (20.4km round trip, at least eight hours). The journey starts with an uphill section, and then cuts to the main route, passing through several camping areas. The latter section is steeper and has gravel🪨. It is recommended to wear hiking shoes with thicker soles. The higher you climb, the wider the view will be. Along the way, the scenery of the town of El Chaltén follows you, as if the town is cheering me up along the way and telling me that I'll be there after turning a corner!
