Taichung is an attractive city that has a much more chill vibes than Taipei. It is a convenient location to get to many other attractions in Chiayi and Alishan Getting There: You can take a high soeed rail from Taipei. Personally find that public transport is not as robust as Taipei and also Gaomei wetlands is abit far out. Recommend joining a day tour to maximise time. Food: Best night market in Taichung is Feng Chia Night market with plenty of food options, Also remember to try the famous Sun cakes in Taichung. Itinerary: 1. Gaomei Wetlands Highlights - This place is especially famous and popular to see the stunning sunset and recommend to be there 1 hour before sunset to get a spot and see the wetlands before high tide. You can see crabs and mudskippers. Far from city so will need a cab or half day tour. 2. Rainbow village Highlights - Beautifully painted village, hand painted by an old grandpa, formerly a residential area for military people. Colourful and vibrant village. 3. National Theatre Highlights - Beautiful architecture and relaxing space where you can chill. There are many small shops selling souvenir and craft items there. Features to see include the butterfly deco on the roof and giant ear in the park opposite. 4. Miyahara Highlights - Beautiful building and shop which sells delicious gelato and beautiful biscuits and chocolates. Recommend trying the tea flavour gelato in waffle cup! 5. Chun Shui Tang Highlights - Visited the original store and this is claimed to be the founding place of pearl milk tea. 📍Address: Fengjia Night Market Fengjia Night Market was the first night market I visited after arriving in Taiwan, and also the last night market I visited before leaving Taiwan. 😎😎😎 The first time I came to Fengjia Night Market, I was of course attracted by the large and small neon signs on both sides of the street! The teacher once said in class, "Don't you think Taiwan's neon signs are messy?" But from an outsider's perspective, I not only don't think they are messy, but they have a unique cyber feel. 🏖️🏖️ As a tourist night market, this place is much better than other night markets in terms of traffic safety! The night market next to my school is directly connected to the road, so motorcycles, cars and buses often run side by side. There are no sidewalks, so you can only walk as close to the side of the road as possible. Actually, this trip to Taichung was just for relaxation, without any specific places in mind to visit. We just searched on Google after arriving there. We specifically chose accommodation near Fengjia Night Market for convenience in finding food, which is about a 15-minute walk away. However, staying in this area has a downside. I later found out that the places or attractions I wanted to visit were all on the other side of the city, and this accommodation is not close to the MRT, so we opted to take Uber. Day 1: Went to Fengjia Night Market in the evening to find something to eat. There are two large supermarkets nearby, which is convenient for me when the weather is too hot to go out. Day 2: Visited the Taichung Art Museum, which is worth a visit. Day 3: Went to Anime Lane, which was nice but smaller than I expected. Day 4: Visited Taichung Train Station and walked around two nearby night markets, which felt smaller in scale compared to Fengjia. The duck rice and braised pork rice were delicious. I found a slightly sweet one near the accommodation, which was nice, but the operating hours were too short, making it inconvenient.

The squid is grilled on the spot upon ordering and this might take awhile for the food to be done. The grilled squid is delicious, tasted fresh and tender. It does not taste like frozen squid. There is a stall vendor in Feng Chia Night Market selling sugar cane drinks. Sugar cane drink is one of the best drink to quench our thirst! The sugar cane drink comes in a cup or bottle options. Since I am thirsty, I bought the bottle version and it is more worth it than the cup pricing.
