Best Things to DoNo.1 of Best Things to Do in Izmir Province
Historic buildings

Ephesus is a well-preserved classical city in the eastern Mediterranean and a great place to experience and feel life during the Roman period. As the capital of the Roman Empire in Asia (Asia province) at the time, it was known as "the first and largest metropolis in Asia". The world says that there is no Rome, but better than Rome. This beautiful city has always been one of the favorite places for tourists to visit in Turkey. The extensive ruins of the ancient city have been preserved for more than 2,000 years and are now one of the monuments listed by UNESCO. The current ruins of the ancient city of Ephesus are oriented northwest-southeast, with a total length of about two kilometers. The main remaining structures are: stone column corridor, statue of Artemis, altar of the Roman emperor Domitian and frescoes of the ancient Greek philosopher Socrates, reliefs of Theodosius, leader of the Monophysite School, Temple of Emperor Hadrian, Church of St. John, Library, Theater, Bath, etc.
