The pink sand of Elafonisi Beach 🇬🇷
#beachcheck
Just got back from Elafonisi Beach in Crete, and I can’t stop thinking about it! 🌺🏖️ The place is absolutely stunning, with its pink sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters—it feels like a piece of paradise. The beach is free to enter, and it’s easy to spend the whole day just lounging, swimming, and soaking up the sun. The shallow waters make it perfect for families, and you can walk across the lagoon to a small islet that feels like your own private beach. 🌊
We also explored the Elafonisi Nature Reserve, where the dunes and rare plants create a unique landscape. The area is a protected habitat for loggerhead turtles, so it’s important to be respectful of the environment while you’re there. Just a short drive away, the Chrysoskalitissa Monastery is perched on a hill with breathtaking views of the sea—definitely worth a visit!
For lunch, we found a cozy taverna nearby and enjoyed some fresh Greek salad, tzatziki, and seafood. 🦑 The laid-back vibe of Elafonisi Beach makes it perfect for relaxing, but there's also plenty of natural beauty to explore if you're up for it. If you’re in Crete, this beach is a must-see. I’m already dreaming about my next visit! #trip #ElafonisiBeach #Crete #PinkSand #BeachParadise #NatureLovers

Elafonsi beach
#getgoing2025
The waters separating the island from Crete are both exceptionally clear and shallow which helps makes them warm and safe. Such inviting waters and stunning surroundings have unfortunately made Elafonsi beach a bit of a must see and it summer it gets busy. The good news though is that you can easily escape the wall-to-wall sun beds by wading across the knee deep shallows of the lagoon to the island itself. Here you will find a sun-lounger free zone and a protected wildlife reserve too. There are several little beaches and coves on Elafonisi island and the further you walk, the quieter it gets.

Cruising Around Chania and Beyond
Chania is a city on the northwest coast of the Greek island of Crete. It’s famous for its 14th century Venetian Harbour. The city old town is well worth a visit and is crammed full of souvenir shops, cafés and restaurants. There are some beautiful beaches close to the city but why not hire a car and take the time to visit some of the famous beaches on the West Coast of Crete such as Balos Beach, Elafonisi beach, famous for its pink sand and Falassarna beach? Chania Airport is that by Public Transport and the journey time it’s only about 20 minutes.
