Savoring Swiss Flavors at Kleine Scheidegg
#eatlikealocal #100waysoftravel#switzerland
After our hike, we discovered the delightful Kleine Scheidegg mountain restaurant, an inviting spot that instantly caught our attention. Situated at the foot of the majestic Eiger North Face, this charming Swiss eatery offers breathtaking views of Mönch and Jungfrau. With a chill in the air and hunger setting in, we couldn't resist trying the local fare. We ordered alpine pizza and a hearty homemade minestrone filled with pasta, fresh vegetables, and herbs, along with the must-try bacon rösti and a traditional dish of chopped beef. To quench our thirst, we opted for Swiss wine, a rare treat back in Malaysia. The highlight was the Jungfrau coffee, served in a whimsical paper cup placed inside a mug adorned with mountain scenes, which I joyfully took home as a memento. With its cozy traditional decor, Kleine Scheidegg is a must-visit for anyone looking to eat like a local in this stunning region.

A world to see
“It is not down in any map, true places never are” - Herman Melville
It was unforgettable autumn trip we had in Switzerland. Once you hike down this Eiger Trail, other places sceneries are not comparable anymore.
Getting There - From Jungfraujoch : Take Mountain Train down to Eigergletscher station. Find Eiger Trail sign behind the station/ask the staff, start there and just follow the route.
Attractions - Hiking with breathtaking scenery, suitable for healthy children (around 5+ y.o) with guardian/adults.
Duration : 2.5h - 4h, depends on your own pace.

Grindelwald: A crime if you miss it!
Get here by train! We came via Basel and just enjoyed the scenic views from the huge train windows. Lake, villages, mountains, you won’t want to close your eyes!
Coming here in early autumn, we escaped the crowds and could explore First, Eiger, and Jungfraujoch with ease and little wait time. The mountains are magnificent all thru the year! The colours of the landscape will change and hiking to the Balchapsee is an experience in itself. Discovering WCs in the middle of nowhere, up
in the mountains, complete with toilet tissue is something only the Swiss can guarantee!
There are many hotels in this little village and all are within walking distance of the train station. We stayed at the Eiger Aparthotel as we wanted to prepare our own meals to save cost. Bookings come with daily afternoon tea and the variety of cakes, teas and coffees were an absolute treat!
There are many cafes around for fondue and all sorts of local delights. We opted to explore the two supermarkets for raw ingredients and cooked up our own dinners at a fraction of the cost of eating out. Do check out the different yogurt flavours, types of cheese, and cured meats too!
As it is a tourist destination, you can get souvenirs and major brands here. There is a post office (to send postcards) and some banks if you need forex.
My #2023travelwish is to drop by this beautiful place again in the SUMMER and take in the wonders of creation ❤️

Hiking Mannlichen--A Toad Wants to Eat Swan Meat
📍Attraction Address: Mannlichen is located south of the Kleine Scheidegg, belonging to Wengen.
🚗Attraction Transportation: Complete the hike at Kleine Scheidegg, then take the train back to Wengen. From Wengen, take the 🚠cable car to Mannlichen.
👍️Must-visit Attraction: Complete the hike on Route 47 here, hike to Mannlichen Gipfel. This viewing platform is at an altitude of 2342 meters, offering a better view of the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau peaks. Today's weather is clear and sunny. When hiking to the viewing platform, the clouds hovering over the peaks look like flying saucers circling the mountains, which is very spectacular.
It is said that if you look at the green hill below the peaks from here, it looks like a toad with its mouth wide open facing the Jungfrau. I named this scene 'A Toad Wants to Eat Swan Meat.'
🎟️Ticket Information: Free
💗Other Tips: I have been to this place once before. That time, I was in Wengen, saw the top of the mountain was fine, so I took the cable car up. As soon as I got up, the mountain was shrouded in thick fog. The good thing about buying a pass is that you can take unlimited rides, and if the weather changes, you can immediately change your plans without extra cost.

Cable car directly to Eigergletscher overlooking the Jungfrau
The Eiger, Jungfrau, and Mönch peaks stand tall.
🚗Transportation to the attraction: Take the cable car🚡 from Grindelwald to Eigergletscher.
👍️Must-visit attraction: From here, you can take the Jungfrau train to reach the Kleine Scheidegg at an altitude of 3,454 meters (11,333 feet). The station located within the Kleine Scheidegg is also the highest railway station in Europe, known as the 'Top of Europe.' Here, you can also look up at the Jungfrau.
The name Jungfrau translates directly to 'Virgin Peak.' There are two local stories about the origin of this name. One is that the mountain is often shrouded in clouds, making the Jungfrau 'shy' and unwilling to be seen. The other story is that the nearby Eiger fell in love with this 'maiden,' but the Mönch in between has always prevented them from meeting.

Swiss memories of a lucid dream on the Jungfrau
I put down my eyelids and thoughts in the wooden house, and I can enjoy the tranquility of being in the snow scene outside the window without appreciation, and I can catch the trance of the moment in the fireplace without concentration. What I can't forget is the last descent in Grindelwald. Under the setting sun, I broke into the sea of clouds with the train, and vaguely saw that the north wall of the Eiger Peak above did not touch the snow and broke through the fog, and the golden peak reflected the afterglow into this world that should only be white. I don't want to stay, bypass the crowd who stop to admire, pass through the tunnel under the railway track, pass through the invisible scenery, pass through the path in the forest...
The fog buries the familiar road
There is no eye-catching scenery to crowd the sight, the snowboard cuts accurately on the snow, and the snow stirred up is noisy and harmonious
There is no changing scenery to judge the speed
But I know the time when the snowflakes pass through the body, the road under my feet drags the fanaticism away, the breath is stripped away with the cold wind, every nerve is stripped away, I dissipate in the fog, and let the body sink into the sea bottom

Alpine Adventures in Grindelwald
Grindelwald, nestled in the heart of the Swiss Alps, is a haven for adventurers and nature lovers alike. My visit to this picturesque village was a deep dive into the stunning beauty of the Bernese Oberland, where jagged mountains meet clear blue skies. Grindelwald serves as the perfect base for exploring the surrounding peaks, including the famous Eiger North Face, offering activities from hiking and skiing to paragliding and mountain biking.
A memorable experience was taking the cable car up to First, a mountain top with breathtaking views of the surrounding Alpine panorama. The First Cliff Walk, a metal walkway attached to the side of the mountain, provided an adrenaline-pumping perspective of the vastness below. For those seeking thrills, the First Flyer, a zip line that races down the mountain, offers an exhilarating way to enjoy the landscape.
Hiking in Grindelwald is unparalleled, with trails for all abilities. The hike to Bachalpsee, a serene alpine lake, is a must-do for its postcard-perfect reflections of the snow-capped mountains. The well-marked trails meander through alpine meadows dotted with wildflowers, offering peaceful solitude and natural beauty at every turn.
For a change of pace, the Eiger Trail offers a closer look at the imposing North Face of the Eiger, a legendary mountain among climbers. The trail allows hikers to appreciate the sheer scale and challenge of the mountain, while safely from a distance.
Dining in Grindelwald means savoring traditional Swiss cuisine with a view. Local restaurants offer hearty dishes like raclette and fondue, perfect after a day of mountain exploration. The warmth of Swiss hospitality is evident, making every meal a welcoming experience.
Grindelwald is not just a destination; it's an invitation to immerse oneself in the majesty of the Alps. Whether basking in the tranquility of alpine lakes, challenging oneself on the hiking trails, or simply enjoying the scenic beauty, Grindelwald offers an unforgettable Alpine adventure.

Switzerland's Jungfrau region has four very famous towns, Grindelwald, Wengen, Lauterbrunnen and Murren. The first two are on the Jungfrau, and the latter two are more convenient. I chose Shelang on the trip. But before I saw other people's travel notes, I was deeply touched by the scenery of the dreamy hillside, so I chose Grindelwald without hesitation when choosing! I want to see the legendary "Fantasy Hillside"! The dreamy hillside is a hillside opposite the town of Grindelwald, at the foot of the Eiger, close to the Grindelwald Grund.
Blue sky, snowy mountains, meadows, plus the decoration of the cabin, everything looks so harmonious, natural!
Fantasy hillside is at the foot of Eiger, which is known as the four northern walls!
You can also see the small train from the Jungfrau in the distance. It should be driving to Grindelwald Grund.
