The hotel was formerly the Fort Shelby Hotel, which opened in 1918, and witnessed the development and prosperity of Detroit from 1920 to the mid-20th century, as well as the decline and decay after the Detroit riots in 1967. The Fort Shelby Hotel changed hands several times and finally closed in 1974. It was not renovated until more than 30 years later in 2008, and reopened as a DoubleTree by Hilton hotel. Currently, part of the building is used as a hotel and part as an apartment. The view from the guest room is the parking building behind the building, and you can see a little bit of the Detroit River, and across the river is Windsor, Canada. In addition, you can see that the road behind is relatively bad. This area is only a few blocks away from the real downtown Campus Martius Park, but the infrastructure is very different.
