Discovered by chance: The Historic City Ruins Park - Dogo Park
From Dogo Onsen in Matsuyama City, if you walk left along the road, you will come across a historical site that was once the residence of the Kono clan during the Heian period, known as Yuzuki Castle. The remaining ruins have now been transformed into a park, the lush green Dogo Park.
The moat still exists, forming a river that surrounds the park. When visiting during cherry blossom season, the beautiful blossoms reflect on the moat, creating a stunning scene. Climbing up to the observation deck on the castle ruins offers a wide view, allowing you to see Matsuyama Castle, Matsuyama City, and the cherry blossoms covering the mountains.
Not far from Dogo Park is Dogo Station, a retro wooden building that exudes an ancient charm, making you feel as if you have traveled back to the Heian period, ready to take a tram to the hot springs.

Dogo Park was originally a castle. The Kono clan ruled over this area, and it was here that battles were fought frequently during the Sengoku period.
The park is so beautiful, and there are so many people having picnics and relaxing that I found myself dozing off!
It may not be that well-known, but I think it's a great place!

Close to t
Close to the Dogo Onsen Honkan and Dogo Station is Dogo Park. Dogo Park is almost perfect. Not too big, you can walk around it, or over it, in fifteen minutes. The park has lots to see and do. The observation platform at the top offers a magnificent panoramic view of Matsuyama, the castle, and the Seto Inland Sea. There’s nothing that resembles a castle anymore, but there’s a well-made replica of a samurai compound, and a very good little museum. The park is close to many other attractions, but it’s well worth a visit in itself, if only to see the people of Matsuyama taking their leisure in a little local oasis.

Absolutely gorgeous little park. Lots of birds, turtles and nice scenery to enjoy. We spent some wonderful hours here. Enjoyed watching a guy with a pigeon on a leash. Wildlife here seems to be quite the attraction, given the TV teams competing with us amateurs for inner city wildlife and nature shots.
Comfortable environment, you can leisurely stroll for an afternoon.
