A jewel of the Mudéjar-style monuments
Walking tour in the Spanish Central Plateau ~ Teruel (region)
Teruel is located in the highlands of southern Aragon and its historic centre has preserved an important medieval heritage. The Cathedral Tower, along with the towers of San Salvador, San Martín and San Pedro, is the jewel of the Mudéjar complex and is listed as a World Heritage Site.
A legendary city thanks to the famous story of lovers, Teruel has preserved charming corners such as the central Plaza Torico, the arched aqueduct and the popular Avenida Ellipse.
On the outskirts, a more modern Teruel emerges, with a convention center and Dinopolis, a dinosaur theme park. Albarracín, a town declared a National Monument, Mora de Rubielos and other places are the perfect complement to a visit to the capital of the province of Teruel.
From the earliest times, various prehistoric and Iberian civilizations settled near present-day Teruel. The city's rise and development reached its peak in the Middle Ages, when, when it found itself on Christian lands bordering the Muslim Kingdom of Valencia, a wall was built around its perimeter.
It is this Islamic influence that has given Teruel and Aragon the most important remains of Mudéjar architecture in Spain, a style that combines Gothic and Muslim architectural elements.
