Best Things to see in Downtown Chengdu, China 🇨🇳
Here’s a guide to downtown Chengdu based on my visit:
🌆 Overview: Downtown Chengdu is a vibrant mix of modern skyscrapers and ancient traditions. It’s a dynamic area where you can explore shopping streets, cultural landmarks, and some of the best food in China.
🍜 Highlights: Don’t miss Kuanzhai Alley for its traditional architecture and delicious street food. Try the famous Sichuan hotpot at one of the many local restaurants. Tianfu Square is another must-see, with its iconic statue of Chairman Mao and beautiful fountains.
📸 Photography Tips: Capture the contrast between the towering modern buildings and the more traditional areas like Daci Temple. Early mornings or late afternoons provide the best lighting for city shots.
👟 What to Wear: Comfortable shoes are essential for exploring the busy streets and markets. Dress in layers, as Chengdu weather can be unpredictable, especially during rainy seasons.

❤️Finally, come to the panda mahjong wall on Nanshamao Street, where you can take a photo with this special background. In addition, there is a panda bookstore, and the umbrella-holding panda, reading panda, and panda hand-painted wall in the courtyard at the door are all very cute, which is a good place to take photos and check in. If you go further, you will also find a panda kiosk, full of childhood memories.
2. Day 2: Cute Time at Panda Base💎

Hidden Gems in Taikoo Li, Chengdu | Visit and Dine at Daci Temple.
Daci Temple in Chengdu was first built during the Wei and Jin dynasties and reached its peak during the Tang and Song dynasties. It has a long history and has produced many eminent monks. It is known as the "first forest in Zhen Dan". It is said that the famous monk Xuanzang of the Tang Dynasty was ordained, studied Buddhism, and preached here.
When Su Dongpo came to Chengdu, he visited Daci Temple and praised the murals in the temple: they are exquisite and unparalleled. Now, these four characters are engraved on the wall outside the gate of Daci Temple.
The facade and architecture of Daci Temple are both exquisite and ingenious. Whether it is the statue on the eaves, the carved ridge, or even the carp column of the bell, the paint is carefully colored.
The courtyard is clean, the incense is lingering, and the chanting of the monks is heard. Here, time seems to freeze, people are immersed in it, forgetting the hustle and bustle of the outside world, and each is looking for a corner of peace in their hearts.
Daci Temple was formerly the Chengdu Museum, which houses a large number of precious cultural relics. It is geographically advantageous and has always been the first choice for Chengdu citizens to visit and pray for blessings in the New Year.
The simple and solemn texture of Daci Temple is just a leisurely time next to Swire Taikoo Li. The temple is quiet and elegant, and visitors come to kneel and pray in front of the Buddha statue.

Please come to Daci Temple in Chengdu to experience Zen tea
The oldest teahouse in Chengdu is the Zen Tea Hall of Daci Temple. According to records, the Zen Tea Hall of Daci Temple existed as early as 1200 years ago during the Tang Dynasty. Its founder, Master Wuxiang, was a prince from the Kingdom of Silla. If you want to quietly savor a pot of tea in the bustling Daci Temple, in the fragrant Zen Tea Hall, what kind of feeling would that be?

The Daci Temple in the bustling center of Chengdu is worth a visit
The Daci Temple in Chengdu is located on the first section of Dongfeng Road in Jinjiang District, next to the Taikoo Li commercial area. It was built between the 3rd and 4th centuries AD and is known as the 'Foremost Jungle of Zhendan'. Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty once bestowed the name 'Imperial Grand Holy Mercy Temple'. It has experienced ups and downs, being destroyed by war several times, and the existing halls were successively rebuilt from the Shunzhi to Tongzhi years of the Qing Dynasty. The Daci Temple in Chengdu was originally built during the Wei and Jin dynasties, flourished in the Tang and Song dynasties, and is known for its long history, profound culture, grand scale, and the emergence of many high monks, traditionally hailed as the 'Foremost Jungle of Zhendan'. The Daci Temple is now open to the public for free, and friends who like it can come and visit when they are in Chengdu.

Daci Temple in Chengdu
Daci Temple, also known as the ancient Daci Temple, is located in the Dongfeng Road section of Jinjiang District, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. It was built between the 3rd and 4th centuries during the Wei and Jin Dynasties and is known as the 'Foremost Monastery in the Land of Shenzhou'. Daci Temple was most prosperous during the Tang and Song Dynasties, with a long history, profound culture, grand scale, and many eminent monks, hence it has been passed down as the 'Foremost Monastery in the Land of Shenzhou'.
The founding date of the temple, according to the Song Dynasty's Puji's 'Wudeng Huiyuan', can be deduced from the Indian monk Baozhang's journey to the east during the Wei and Jin Dynasties to worship Samantabhadra in Shu, leaving behind Daci, which would be between the 3rd and 4th centuries, making it over 1600 years old. Emperor Xuanzong of Tang once granted the name 'Imperially Established Daci Temple'. Despite being destroyed and rebuilt many times due to wars, the existing halls were successively rebuilt from the Shunzhi to Tongzhi years of the Qing Dynasty. The temple complex includes the Hall of Heavenly Kings, Guanyin Hall, Mahavira Hall, Dharma Hall, and Sutra Tower, among others. The Mahavira Hall and Sutra Tower use gorge stones as pillars, which are majestic and spectacular. The temple's halls are magnificent, the courtyards are serene, and ancient trees reach for the skies. Now, there are tea gardens, chess gardens, and famous snack shops within the temple.
The inscription 'Ancient Daci Temple' above the mountain gate dates back to the 8th day of the twelfth lunar month in the sixth year of Guangxu (1880), which is more than 120 years ago, indicating that the plaque is not the imperial plaque rumored to have been written by Emperor Xuanzong or Emperor Xizong of Tang. The ancient plaque is about 70 centimeters high and 3 meters long, carved out of red stone. The year is marked as 'the day of Buddha's enlightenment in the sixth year of Guangxu' (i.e., the 8th day of the twelfth lunar month), and the signature reads 'written by Huang Yunhu of Chuqi'. On each side of it, there is a small stone plaque, inscribed with the words 'True Liberation Gate' and 'Great Bright Path' respectively.
Historically, the most characteristic and influential cultural relics of 'Daci Temple' were famous paintings and bronze Buddhas. According to 'Daci Temple Records', 'When it comes to Tang Dynasty paintings, none are more numerous than those in Chengdu; and among those in Chengdu, none are more abundant than those in Daci Temple.' Books like Fan Chengda's 'Notes on Ancient Temples in Chengdu' and Huang Xiufu's 'Record of Famous Paintings in Yizhou' also contain many records about the mural artists and content of Daci Temple. In the first year of Jiayou of the Song Dynasty (1056), Su Shi and his brother Su Zhe visited Daci Temple and greatly admired the works of Tang Dynasty Buddhist painting master Lu Lengjia, praising the Daci Temple murals as 'exquisitely unparalleled in the world', making it an extremely precious and rare art treasury.

The beauty of the Zen atmosphere at Dabe Temple
Daci Temple in Chengdu was founded during the Wei and Jin dynasties, and has a history of more than 1600 years. Throughout history, due to Emperor Xuanzong and Emperor Xizong of Tang seeking refuge in Shu from chaos, many court painters also entered Sichuan, leading to a great flourishing of painting in the region. Over the Tang, Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties, nearly a thousand years, numerous renowned painters created countless exquisite murals at Daci Temple, making the mural art of Daci shine brilliantly, on par with Dunhuang. Experts have commented that all the portraits in the temple are 'peerless masterpieces of their time,' and Su Dongpo highly praised the Tang paintings of Daci Temple as 'exquisitely unparalleled in the world'.
For a long time, Daci Temple has held its position as the center of Buddhism, culture, commerce, and entertainment in Chengdu. It could even be said that Daci Temple has nurtured the most attractive urban temperament of Chengdu: a love for life, an optimistic and inclusive attitude towards life; a leisurely and composed lifestyle, and a diverse array of artistic schools and folk cultures.
The long scroll of history slowly unfolds, revealing the shocking 'An Lushan Rebellion' of the Tang Dynasty, which forced the emperor Tang Xuanzong to seek refuge in the 'Land of Abundance'—Chengdu. This tranquil land bore the royal family's anxiety and hopes. Today, although Da Ci'en Temple has experienced vicissitudes, its architectural style is a carefully reconstructed treasure from the Qing Dynasty, still standing at No. 23, Da Ci'en Temple Road, Jinjiang District, Chengdu, quietly waiting for the world to explore. Within the temple, the great master Xuanzang once devoted himself to studying the precepts here, endowing this place with an immensely revered Buddhist heritage.
Stepping into Da Ci'en Temple is like entering a quiet world where one can listen to the whispers of the soul and bathe in the fragrance of Zen. It is a dwelling place for the spirit, a starting point for a thousand-year journey of prayer, and an ideal place deeply imbued with historical and cultural essence. From the first light of dawn to the slanting rays of the setting sun, 8:00 to 17:00, the temple gates are open to the public, with no admission fee, waiting for those destined to step into this pure land.
Convenient transportation makes it easy to arrive. Take the Metro Line 2 to Chunxi Road Station, stroll leisurely for 8 minutes, and you can pass through the bustling city to enter the simple and solemn temple gate. Hidden within the temple is a teahouse named 'Da Ci', not only a leisurely gathering place for locals but also an excellent window to experience the slow life of Chengdu. There are often performances of melodious local songs, with the elderly sitting around sipping tea and chatting merrily, presenting a vivid picture of a peaceful and leisurely community. You might as well blend in, savor a cup of clear tea, and steal a moment of leisure from life.
The vegetarian meals in the temple are simple yet abundant, served promptly at 11:30 every day, with a wide variety, and affordably priced. Whether it's exquisite small dishes, rich bean curd rice, or refreshing and happy mung bean jelly, each dish is no more than 20 yuan, with an average consumption of only about 15 yuan per person. The culinary skills are commendable: the stir-fried dishes are cooked to perfection, with a lively wok aroma yet retaining a fresh flavor; the mung bean jelly is well mixed, with the bright red chili oil fragrant and appetizing; the bean curd is smooth and tender, with a rich bean flavor, each bite a delight for the taste buds.
A special note, each visitor can receive a handwritten auspicious sign, with types including 'Successful Exams', 'Everything Goes Well', 'Lifelong Peace', or 'Career Success', available while supplies last. Simply follow, like, and save to receive one for free from 9:00 to 18:00 daily, limited to one per person. In addition, a dazzling array of consecrated prayer beads are available for the faithful to purchase. After forming a connection, one might as well hold the beads in prayer, sincerely wishing. There are also golden lotus stickers, which can be obtained by actively asking the friendly ladies at the Dharma goods counter, who will warmly guide you on how to worship the Buddhas in the main hall, making your Buddhist pilgrimage more ceremonial.
In summary, Da Ci'en Temple is not only a witness to history but also a comprehensive cultural destination for modern people seeking spiritual solace, appreciating local culture, experiencing vegetarian cuisine, and immersive Buddhist worship. We look forward to every visitor finding inner peace in this ancient and enduring land, and harvesting blessings and wisdom.

Daci Temple - A Must-Visit Destination in Chengdu!
Daci Temple, also known as the ancient Daci En Temple, was founded during the Wei and Jin dynasties, flourished in the Tang and Song dynasties, and is renowned for its long history, profound culture, grand scale, and the emergence of many high monks, being known as 'the foremost Sangha in the land of Shenzhou'. The Tripitaka master Xuanzang once traveled from Chang'an to Chengdu, where he took monastic vows and studied the Vinaya at the Daci Temple's Vinaya Academy. Due to the visits of Emperor Xuanzong and Emperor Xizong of Tang to Shu, many famous painters also gathered in Chengdu, leading to a great flourishing of the painting scene. Within Daci Temple alone, there were more than a thousand murals. The temple has experienced periods of prosperity and decline, being destroyed by war several times, with the existing halls being reconstructed successively after the Shunzhi era of the Qing dynasty. The temple complex includes the Hall of Heavenly Kings, Guanyin Hall, Mahavira Hall, Dharma Hall, Sutra Tower, and others.

Roaming old Chengdu guide, it's suitable for collection
Coming to the land of abundance - Chengdu, it hides the folk customs of western Sichuan, the historical clouds of the Three Kingdoms, and the profound Bashu culture. But what I yearn for more is the ease, leisure and slow pace here, as well as the irresistible street Sichuan flavor temptation, the spicy taste makes people want to put the whole Chengdu in their stomachs. I passed by Chengdu several times before, always in a hurry, without a good taste of this city. This time, I decided to feel it, drink tea, pick ears, taste the style of Shu, eat all the spicy delicious; the fireworks here are dense, but not lost in the old quiet, like a complex old painting, gathered the simple life of the people, and like a cup of tea soaked in stories, waiting for the destined people to taste carefully.
**DAY1: Daci Temple The cutest temple in the downtown🏯**
The first stop of my trip to Chengdu, I chose Daci Temple not far from the hotel. Although I am not a religious believer, I am full of expectations for this "quiet in the noise of the millennium ancient temple". Perhaps because it is in the commercial center area, this millennium famous temple still maintains its simplicity and tranquility. I stroll among them, as if through time, feeling the precipitation of Chengdu for thousands of years. And in a hidden small world in Daci Temple, the tea culture of Daci Tea House makes me linger, when I am upset, the clear tea here seems to be a pure land.
**Fisherman's Fish Goose Soft Stone Fish Hot Pot 🐟🔥**
Chengdu's food is everywhere, and the Fisherman's Fish on Zhimin Road is a stop I can't miss. Fresh fish are caught, processed on the spot and then served, allowing me to witness the most authentic fish hot pot. After eating hot pot, dessert is indispensable, and the ice powder on Zhimin Road is one of the most famous desserts in Chengdu.
**IFS The panda that can climb walls 🐼🏢**
Chengdu people use IFS panda as a landmark, dating, taxiing are here. Overlooking Chengdu from the top of IFS, the panda in the sky garden square is particularly cute. This is a must-visit place in Chengdu, adding a touch of fun to the trip to Chengdu.
This trip to Chengdu is full of expectations and surprises, the tranquility of Daci Temple, the hot pot of Fisherman's Fish, the panda of IFS, all make me deeply feel the unique charm of this city. Looking forward to exploring more Chengdu food and culture!🌆🍲

A gem in the hustle and bustle | Peaceful amidst the chaos in Chengdu's Taikoo Li
Da Sheng Ci Temple is unique in that it once had many sub-temples and is a famous Buddhist temple in Chengdu. I seem to remember it was not open to the public the last time I came, my memory is a bit fuzzy.. But this time when I passed by, the gate was open.
Because it is located in the city and is a bustling area of Taikoo Li, there are many tourists. Although the temple is not quiet, it is a peaceful place amidst the chaos. The famous paintings and bronze Buddhas in the courtyard are very distinctive and worth seeing.

Unexpected Hidden Gem🇨🇳

We always walked past this place so we could only admire its facade however we had been invited by firends to have some tea inside the temple and we were surpised to see how beautiful it is inside. It is nicely located in a busy shopping area but when you are inside you can still feel the tranquility that it offers to its visitors. I am just glad that the local government preserved this place despite the development and modern buildings around it.

Chunxi Road Business district In addition to high-rise buildings and commercial pedestrian streets, the most popular giants of IFS and luxury goods gathered in Taikoo. Taikoo Li is an open, low-density block form shopping mall, which is composed of many lanes and lanes. The Chinese classical design of the Qingwa-shaped top is matched with the modern floor-to-ceiling glass wall. The unique architectural style is impressive. .
The fashion trend of people coming and going, adding to the scenery of Taikoo Li, it has become a photography base, and has a large scene, so Taikoo has become a must-see for photographers from all directions. Walking into a strip, I found that it is definitely the best street shooting place in Taikoo, and the light and the building are staggered, making the light softer.
A lot of people travel, basically don't go to the temple, they feel that this is a serious place, or a place that is not suitable for travel, but this is not the case in Daci Temple in Chengdu.
Daci Temple is next to Taikoo Li, but there are not many people who actually go inside the temple, but here is really an invincible place in Chengdu.
In the inside of Daci Temple, you can see a lot of such super cute little monks, big and small, these super cute monks, attracted so many children, the photo is really good.

Listening to the locals, one of the reasons for the exuberant incense of Daci Temple was that Tang Xuanzang was the host here. As early as 1400 years ago, Master Tang Xuanzhao had come to Chengdu, Guangxue Jingxue, and the great course of opening the westbound journey in the Daci Temple. Up to now, the temple has still seen the "Daci Sheng Temple" of the Emperor Xuanzong's royal pen, and the "Maxiong Hall" written by Dongpo.
The small monk statue under the tree in front of the door, with a strong sprouting style, and a row of little monks in front of the refurbished temple or happy, or contemplative, various expressions of different forms, let the whole big Ci Temple is lively, so many tourists passers-by will stop to take pictures and commemorate. Standing down the tree, quietly watching the pilgrims and tourists coming and going in the Daci Temple, occasionally one or two leaves fell silently on the shoulders, or in the heart, hovering, jumping, rolling in the breeze, like A light dancer, dancing and composing, singing and swaying around, sketching a fantasy world.

Daci Temple, hidden in the center of Chengdu City, pure land
Daci Temple is located in the prosperous Taikooli business district of Chengdu, is a famous ancient temple in Chengdu, has a long history, has been more than 1,600 years ago.
Today's Daci Temple is located in the bustling city center, with a wall separating temples and businesses. In the temple, the courtyard is still deep, the red walls are covered with tiles, and the temples are magnificent. Compared to the sounds of Taikooli outside the temple, the quietness of Daci Temple is like passing through. It must be said that this is the pure land hidden in the downtown area. Although Daci Temple is in the bustling commercial center, there is no sense of violation. Here, modern architecture and ancient architecture are also well blended together, both modern and traditional, which makes people feel very special.
When I walked into Daci Temple, I felt a quiet and harmonious environment and a peaceful Buddhist atmosphere. The ancient trees in the temple are towering, flying against the earth, very solemn, and can make people feel the solemnity and mystery of Buddhism. The architecture of the temple is cleverly constructed, and the sculptures on the roof are also ingenious. You can also see a row of large cartoon dolls, which are extremely cute. There is also a tea shop in the
temple, where some old people can sit and rest. Compared to Heming Tea House, the tea shop here is more quiet, it is suitable for a person to taste tea. There are a lot of tables and chairs in the tea shop, and it looks like a very old Chengdu at a glance. A bowl of fragrant bowl of tea, sitting quietly on a bamboo chair for an afternoon, can really appreciate the leisure life of the old Chengdu.

The earthly Buddha light
Daci Temple of Daci Temple is surrounded by glass office buildings, and the door of the luxury goods store is door-to-door. Countless atheists and rebels pass through its door every day, but it does not appear muddy and cautious, but embraces in a tolerant manner. This ever-changing city. The four golden glittering characters in front of the wall - the exquisite crown world, is the wonderful appreciation of Daci Temple when Su Dongpo visited Rongcheng thousands of years ago, and it is also the most accurate description of Daci Temple.
Here is the place where Xuanzang was ordained. Tang Xuanzongs pen was also a pro-topic, and he also gave Tian Qianmu. Daci Temple became an unprecedented royal temple at that time, stretching for ten miles and occupying half of the city. The reputation of The First Jungle of Aurora spreads throughout the five continents, and the high mountains gather and the incense is flourishing. Here is a treasure trove of Buddhist art. Whether it is ancient or modern, this is an unparalleled temple. When I turned right from the street sign in Taikoo Li, it was like walking from the turbulent customs to the quietness of the morning sun. In a moment, I realized what it means to be an "urban temple." The old lacquer side door, a few pieces of fallen leaves fell in front of the door, the black lacquered gold plaque hangs quietly and solemnly. Standing on the wall, you can hear the hum of the ancient bells.
And in the middle of the courtyard, there is a huge cartoon image of a small monk. All of these surprise me. In Daci Temple, the communication of religion is not achieved by the high majesty, but close and compatible. Just as the temple gate is dedicated to the smiling Maitreya Buddha, not to the gods who look like evil spirits, everything here is peaceful and intimate.

Daci Temple was built in the Sui and Tang Dynasties. It has been more than 1600 years ago. The temples that everyone remembers are far away from the world, but Daci Temple has been the commercial center of Chengdu since ancient times. Surrounded by the rare history of Chinese temples, this thousand-year-old temple is still located in the Taikooli business district, the most prosperous area of Chengdu, with a quiet ancient temple on one side and Taikoo Li, a collection of luxury brands. Formed a unique landscape!
Although it is located in the most prosperous center of Chengdu, when you walk into Daci Temple, you feel that your body and mind have calmed down, and a wall has isolated the outside world. There is also a teahouse in the
Daci Temple. The high-backed high-bamboo chair is squatted on the ground, and a cup of tea is placed on the cup. You can chat in the sun and feel the slow life of Chengdu.
The cartoon sculpture of the zodiac in the Daci Temple adds a lot of energy to the temple.
The little monk meditating under the ginkgo tree, changing the seasons, is maintaining this serious posture, and it has become a favorite punching point for young people.
