Historic buildings
The official name of the Church of All Nations is the Basilica of the Agony. This is where Jesus prayed the night before his arrest. The church is built in Byzantine style, with a dome, thick columns and mosaics. The church was built from 1919 to 1924, using funds from 12 different countries, which is also the origin of its common name Church of All Nations. The flag of each country is placed on the glass of the ceiling, inside a small dome. The front of the church is lined with columns with modern mosaics depicting Jesus Christ as a symbol of the connection between God and humanity. The existing church is built on the foundations of two ancient churches, the 12th-century Crusader church (abandoned in 1345) and the 4th-century Byzantine church (destroyed by an earthquake in 746).
