Nanshan Road, West Lake, Hangzhou: A Cultural and Natural Experience
There are two smart routes to visit West Lake, Hangzhou:
Nanshan Road and Gushan Road.
This article is about Nanshan Road, West Lake.
🌟Highlights:
See the artistic academy and historical buildings of the Republic of China, and the Ten Scenes of West Lake, including Orioles Singing in the Willows and Leifeng Pagoda in the Sunset.
📍Bus stop: Qianwang Temple
⏰Recommended time: Afternoon
This way, you can see the sunset at the Leifeng Pagoda Observation Deck, and enjoy the scene of Leifeng Pagoda in the Sunset.
🗓Itinerary:
Route: China Academy of Art - Leifeng Pagoda
China Academy of Art: Opposite Qianwang Temple
👉Henglu Art Museum: Built in the Republic of China, free admission. If you happen to come across a good exhibition, you can go in and have a look.
👉Little Yellow Building: Built in the Republic of China, it was a private residence, and later became the office of the Central News Agency and Xinhua News Agency. Now it is a British afternoon tea shop, and the price is not too high.
👉Goushan Qiaoshe Ruins: The residence of a famous scholar in the Qing Dynasty. You can take a short walk inside, and then cross the road to see one of the Ten Scenes of West Lake, Orioles Singing in the Willows.
👉Orioles Singing in the Willows: Cross the road to the opposite side, enter the West Lake Scenic Area from Orioles Singing in the Willows, and navigate to Xiying Pavilion, a wonderful place to see Leifeng Pagoda from afar.
👉Leifeng Pagoda: Walk south along West Lake to the Leifeng Pagoda Ruins, and see the exquisite carvings of Leifeng Pagoda up close. If you have the energy, you can climb the pagoda, where you can see the ruins and the excavation process, and see West Lake from the top of the pagoda, but it is physically demanding. If you don't want to climb the pagoda, you can go around to the Leifeng Pagoda in the Sunset Observation Deck on the left side of the pagoda.
👉If you still have the energy, you can continue along the road to the public route to Su Causeway. When I went there, it was already dark, and I saw the light and shadow of West Lake on Su Causeway, which is a unique way to visit the public route. (I have been to West Lake many times, but I still recommend seeing the scenery during the day for the first time.)
