Chilli Fagara New Year Feast
On the seventh day of the Lunar New Year, I gathered with friends for a spicy New Year celebration! We chose a classic Michelin-starred Sichuan restaurant for our gathering. Qingli Village Girl also surprised us with a special guest, Sweet Tooth Mom, making this birthday gift truly wonderful.
We chose Chilli Fagara, a Sichuan restaurant located in Central, to celebrate everyone's birthday with spice.
It turns out the restaurant sells its own homemade sauces, which are beautifully packaged and make great souvenirs for friends abroad.
As soon as we sat down, the waiter brought three appetizers to enjoy while waiting for everyone to arrive.
Scallion Oil Yam $108! The fresh and tender yam had a sweet taste, and the fragrant scallion oil made it delicious.
Chongqing Mouthwatering Chicken $148! The sauce had rich layers of flavor, spicy and fragrant with a hint of numbness. The chicken was tender and crispy, so tasty that we had to order another serving.
Red Oil Dumplings $118 are Sweet Tooth Mom's favorite, so we had to order them! The small dumplings had a smooth outer skin and fresh filling, paired with the slightly sour and numbing red oil, making it a gentle and appetizing dish, perfect for those new to spicy food.
Fish Fragrant Omelette $188! The omelette was not as crispy as I imagined, and it was quite runny, making it hard to dip with the small buns. Although the taste was okay, it didn't win my heart.
Duck Lettuce Wraps $148! This dish allows you to choose one filling from beef, pork, chicken, duck, lamb, or vegetables. We chose duck, which was paired with celery, radish, and crispy fried rice noodles. Wrapped in fresh lettuce, it had a rich texture and fresh taste, proving that Sichuan cuisine is not just about spice.
Salt and Pepper Crispy Lamb Shank $438! Two non-spicy eaters were present, so we ordered this delicate lamb shank for them to enjoy.
Sweet and Sour Pork $248! This dish was not particularly impressive, just an average dish that wasn't very attractive. I don't think it's worth trying here.
Poached Pea Shoots in Superior Broth $228! The pea shoots were cooked to perfection, with a rich vegetable flavor and a fresh, sweet broth. The portion was generous, making it worth the price.
Poached Mandarin Fish in Spicy Broth $488! The flavors of fresh, spicy, and numbing were slightly lacking, but the mandarin fish was fresh and tender. The side vegetables and potato noodles were more appealing to me.
Homemade XO Sauce Three-Color Fried Rice Noodles $188! The XO sauce was different from what I expected, and the rice noodles were well-cooked and crispy. Overall, it wasn't my favorite dish.
After several years, the spicy craving wasn't fully satisfied! Fortunately, I had a great time chatting with friends, making this gathering very enjoyable.
