Volendam is the real gem!
Happy to visit Volendam with my family and relative! Spent a quality time walking there and taking photos along the way. One of the must visit restaurant is Restaurant De Lunch, fries are great, fish are fresh, seafood are the best. Highly recommended for first timer! Also, don’t forget the cheese, tulip, and the gigantic wooden shoe, those are significant as well, don’t forget the beautiful scenery by the seashore!

Dutch Cheese Tour - Amsterdam
It is always great learning the cultural differences and traditional practices of different countries. That is why when I travel, I love visiting places where it gives me exposure and knowledge of that country.
When I was in Volendam in Amsterdam, i had the best opportunity to learn more about the Dutch way of eating and their importance in cheesemaking. At their cheese factory, I had first hand insight into their traditional way of producing cheese and it showed us step by step how their different types of cheese were made. At the end of it, you get to taste their cheese and you may purchase their cheese if you wish to. All in all, it was educational and an eye opener. Highly recommend to go for the cheese making tour in Volendam!

It was a very nice weather today so I decided to visit Volendam and arrived in Marinapark.
I took the Bus 312, and walk just to see and feel the beauty of the green surroundings with all the swan and birds flying around.
You will find all these typical Dutch wooden houses, smoked eel, clogs and boats.
Marinapark Volendam is just next to the village .

Volendam: Fishing Traditions and Slow Travel by the Water
#earthdayjourney
Just 20km from Amsterdam, Volendam is a charming fishing village where time seems to move at the pace of the waves. Famous for its colourful wooden houses, traditional Dutch costumes, and fresh seafood, the Volendam is more than a photogenic stop—it’s a great example of how small communities can thrive sustainability.
Wandering through the harbour, I watched local fishermen prepare their catch and artisans craft souvenirs by hand—no mass production, no rush, just pride in tradition. You can easily reach Volendam by bike or bus, and the flat, scenic route encourages low-impact travel. Bonus: the fresh sea breeze is far better than car fumes.
Support local by trying smoked eel from a family-run stall or sipping a fair-trade coffee in a canal-side café. It’s the kind of place where sustainable choices feel effortless.
In Volendam, you’re not just visiting—you’re stepping into a story that’s been unfolding slowly, mindfully, and beautifully for generations.

Walking Through Volendam: A Sustainable Stroll in Amsterdam's Charming Harbor Village
Exploring Volendam, Amsterdam, was a memorable experience, and it was a walk that truly encapsulated the essence of sustainable travel. This charming fishing village, known for its scenic beauty and traditional wooden houses, offers a glimpse into the authentic Dutch way of life. Strolling along the vibrant streets, I admired the preserved architecture, all while being mindful of the eco-conscious choices in the area.
What stood out to me was how Volendam promotes sustainability through eco-friendly tourism practices. The local shops sell handmade crafts, supporting small artisans, and many restaurants focus on sourcing ingredients locally, reducing their carbon footprint. The cobbled streets, lined with sustainable boutiques, felt like stepping into a world where preservation and progress coexist harmoniously.
A walk along the harbor gave me a deeper appreciation of Volendam's connection to the water, offering not just a picturesque view, but also an understanding of the village’s efforts to protect its natural environment. Whether you’re exploring the shops, savoring fresh fish from the local market, or simply soaking in the peaceful atmosphere, Volendam is a perfect destination for those who want to experience sustainability through travel.

Dutch Fishing Vilage
Volendam is a quaint and charming fishing village set by lake Ijesse. It makes for a wonderful daytrip from Amsterdam. In my case though, I arrived from Utrecht, passing by Amsterdam on the way. Almost or under an hour of comfortable journey. My plan was to explore this picturesque village along with marken during the second half.
First impressions were that of a lively place. There were lots of people around, the weather was good. I have to say it is a bit touristy but there's still fun to it. There are lots of shops and cafe like restaurants. It is worth trying seafood here. The harbour was full of all manner of ships and had several very old wooden sailed ships.
There are ferries that take you to Marken. Lake ijessen is lovely. I saw a beach as well. But it seemed small in comparison to the number of daytrippers that had arrived. All in all it was still worth strolling around. It's good to know what you are getting into. That way things don't disappoint.

A Day Trip to the Seaside Town of Volendam
It is recommended to spend a day taking a bus trip to the seaside town of Volendam in the Netherlands. There are many seaside restaurants and a variety of souvenirs, with one shop being particularly affordable. You can enjoy a meal of fried snacks and a beer platter. The seafood platter might differ from the pictures, so it's good to check before ordering. The large seafood platter includes a shrimp, octopus rings, and fish pieces, but the portion is not very large as shown in the picture. You can also order beer. Just a suggestion for everyone!

It is also
It is also a good choice to take a walk in Beihai Fishing Village when you have nothing to do. If the weather is good, you can take bus No. 110 in front of the central train station to Edam, then go to Volendam for lunch and finally to Marken to visit three fishing villages in one day. We went to Volendam on a rainy evening to take a walk and enjoy the sea breeze. It was also romantic to sit at De Lunch and have dinner facing the coast.

Entering the fairy-tale colored town, colorful but not identical.
Everywhere is filled with Dutch style
Quiet and peaceful, comfortable and beautiful to describe here is more than appropriate
This small town has only 22,000 people,
They rely on the fishing industry and tourism for a living
The small fishing village is developing, but also insists on inheritance
Its charm comes from its development
Also in its inheritance
Here is rated by UNESCO as "the most beautiful fishing village in the world"

Netherlands🇳🇱suburban fishing village town - Volendam
About half an hour's drive from Amsterdam, it's a fishing town near the sea. It's a comfortable and relaxing stroll along the shore with the sea breeze.
There are many shops selling souvenirs in the town, as well as coffee shops☕️ and bars facing the sea, where you can enjoy your time leisurely.
There is also a market in the town selling fresh fruits 🥭, bread 🥯 and cheese, etc. It is a good place to buy food. #HollandTravel

"🇳🇱Volendam Beihai Fish Village"
"🇳🇱Volendam Beihai Fish Village"
"Volendam Beihai Fishing Village" The first thing that comes to the minds of 5th and 6th grade students when they see Beihai Fishing Village is the cartoon Beihai Little Hero😆😆😆
This cute little fishing village is located in the north of the Netherlands. It is a coastal village on the outskirts of Amsterdam. If you take the bus (No. 316), it only takes about 30 minutes to get there.
The most distinctive thing here is the "herring sashimi". The herring here is not the smelly canned herring that everyone is familiar with (stinky canned herring is a classic Swedish delicacy?😱) I will try it again next time I have a chance to go to Sweden. 😂 ) It’s real unseasoned, unmarinated sashimi 🤔, well, it’s sashimi, because the meat is quite thick 😂😂😂
The traditional way to eat here is to eat raw fish pieces with pickled cucumbers and raw onions. It is very fresh, so there is no fishy smell at all. The texture is relatively solid and feels a little gluteny (it may also be because the merchant cuts it too thick😂)
Finally, a warm reminder ~ the souvenirs here are very expensive! If this is your first stop, or you still have time to go to places like downtown Amsterdam or Windmill Village, souvenirs can be purchased cheaper there.
By the way (I bought a resin statue of an old-fashioned windmill in a small fishing village in Beihai for 28 euros (approximately NT$950), but then I went to the windmill village and it only cost 7.5 euros...😭😭😭)

North Sea Fishing Village
There is an old fishing village street near the sea in the north of Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. It is called the "small fishing village on the North Sea" by many tourists. In the early days, it was the seaport of Edam. Later, it slowly developed into an independent community. Now there is a bustling shop, Restaurant Street, on the other side of the street, you will see trawlers and transportation boats, which are still where local people live. In addition, you can also see traditional wooden houses, and you can also taste fresh food here. Caught seafood, here is the Netherlands [Volendam].
Generally speaking, the impression given by fishing villages is that of "fishermen" and "busy", but here it feels very different. Arriving at the center of the small fishing village, sailboats pulled down their sails and docked on the shore, like a group of children sleeping soundly after being tired from playing. The mast stands lonely in the sky. There are so many masts, and when I think of their majestic appearance when sailing, my eyes stayed in admiration for a long time. There are some bicycles parked neatly on the embankment. The Dutch have cars and boats, but they use bicycles more to travel. How environmentally friendly! There is a sculpture of an old fisherman sitting on an iron chair by the roadside. It was this fisherman who invented the method of "removing the intestines of herring with one knife". What a quiet haven! I remained silent in the light, letting my heartbeat approach the frequency of a small fishing village. I thought: If I sit here facing the lake for a long time, my irritable heart will be soothed by the wind.
