In the past, the city pillar shrine of Chanthaburi was built with laterite, but it deteriorated over time, becoming covered by Bodhi and banyan trees, and eventually, the shrine was completely gone. The exact shape of the original city pillar is unknown. About 50 years ago, the city pillar shrine was a wooden structure situated between two large banyan trees. Today, a new shrine has been constructed with the city pillar embedded within it, and a new statue of the guardian spirit has also been cast.
