The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, commonly known as the Cathedral of Zagreb, is one of the landmarks in Zagreb. The church, in Gothic style, was destroyed in the earthquake of 1880 and rebuilt in 1899. The church has 13th-century frescoes, Renaissance pews, a marble altar and a Baroque pulpit. This is the largest gothic church in Croatia
If you come from a distance, you can be attracted by the two towering minarets
Unfortunately, it was severely damaged by an earthquake in 1880.
The tower on the right seems to have been repaired for a long time
The postcards bought in nearby stores also show signs of repair
It's a pity that the interior was under repair when I went there.

Exploring Zagreb
Zagreb, the town that serves as the starting point for visiting Plitvice Lakes National Park.
To be honest, Zagreb itself doesn't have many attractive tourist spots, so you can cover the sightseeing spots in one day.
The photos are of St. Mark's Church and Zagreb Cathedral.
Due to renovations and other reasons, you cannot enter them.
It's best to quickly tour around and move on to the next town.
The cost of living is not too high, and there are dormitory hotels where you can stay for as low as 20 euros per night.
The security is not too bad, but there are some areas, such as around the station, that are not very safe, so be especially careful at night.

(Trip to Zagreb) Zagreb Cathedral
#0yentripJanuary2025 #Zagreb #Cathedral
📍Location: Located northeast of Jelacic Square in the center of Zagreb.
🏖️Atmosphere/Facilities: One of the largest churches in the city, it is a building with a strong presence that stands out even from afar. Due to the earthquake, building materials that appear to have been removed from the spire are lined up on the ground, giving the impression of being under construction. The architectural style is typical Gothic, and it is a 19th century church.
💞Reasons why we recommend it: Although it is under construction, the two graceful spires are beautiful, and it is the tallest building in Zagreb, so it is impressive.

Zagreb Cathedral...
The Zagreb Cathedral is a medieval architectural structure located in the capital of Croatia, Zagreb, and is one of the city's landmarks. Known as one of the largest cathedrals in Croatia, it is also referred to as the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
You can see a golden statue of the Virgin Mary at the entrance.
The Zagreb Cathedral was built between the 13th and 15th centuries, featuring characteristics of Gothic and Renaissance styles. This cathedral is famous for its beautiful, ornate stained glass windows and stone-carved decorations.
However, due to destruction caused by earthquakes, ongoing restoration work means that its original appearance is not yet visible.
