Best Things to DoNo.1 of Best Things to Do in Toledo

"Toledo Cathedral is a church that still retains its medieval style. It is the second largest cathedral in Spain. When it was built, it was the first cathedral of the archdiocese of the Spanish Christian Church at that time. The main building of the church is in the Gothic style. The interior decoration absorbs artistic characteristics such as Mudejar. It can be said that this is a huge building complex with a variety of architectural art styles. Toledo Cathedral is the residence of the chief cardinal of Spain. The church was started in 1247, using the French Gothic architectural form, which is rarely used in Spanish churches, absorbed some other local characteristic arts such as Mudejar according to local conditions. It was completed in 1493, and the unique style of Spanish Gothic art was fully reflected in the church building. The bell tower on the left side of the main entrance of the church is 90 meters high, with a large bell weighing 17.5 tons hanging on it. The main church is 112 meters long, 56 meters wide and 45 meters high, supported by 88 large stone bells. The main church and the 22 small rooms around it form a brilliantly decorated part of the entire building complex. Among them, the five groups of colorful pine wood carvings reflecting the life of Jesus on the altar of the main church are even more wonderful! In addition, the choir room is also a highlight of the church. The choir room is located in the center of the main church. The two rows of choir seats are the treasures of Spanish wood carving art. The upper row is in the Renaissance style and the lower row is in the Gothic style. The two styles blend together. The upper row of seats is engraved with saints, and the lower row of seats is inscribed with saints. The engraving shows the historical scenes of the reconquest of Granada during the Restoration War.
