You see the white houses squeezed under massive slabs of stone, and it’s like the cliffs and buildings are having a permanent hug. It’s a chill spot to pause and take it all in. Great for photos, obviously, but also just cool to stand there and think about how people have lived like this for centuries. The vibe is super quiet and peaceful, especially early in the morning or late afternoon when the light hits the town just right. You don’t need to spend a ton of time here, just take a stroll, grab a pic, and enjoy how weird and awesome Setenil is from above. Definitely worth the short climb for the “wow” moment.

#summervacay This place is something else! Setenil de las Bodegas feels like a town that accidentally got swallowed by a cliff and just rolled with it. The whitewashed houses are built right into the massive rocks. Some streets are literally shaded by huge slabs of stone hanging over them like nature’s ceiling fan. It’s wild and super photogenic. You walk around and keep saying, “How is this real?” There's this one street, Calle Cuevas del Sol, where cafés and little tapas bars are tucked right under the rock, grab a coffee there and just vibe. Super chill. The town’s pretty compact, so you can explore it in a couple of hours, but every corner has a surprise. Cute shops, cats lounging everywhere, and a castle at the top if you feel like getting a view. Totally worth the detour if you're road-tripping through Andalucia. Bring your camera, wear comfy shoes, and definitely try the local chorizo. Setenil is small, but it packs a punch!

Inside, the Camera Obscura gave us a live, moving image of the city — surprisingly fun and informative! 🏛 Plaza de San Juan de Dios – The City’s Beating Heart This lively square is a central hub for locals and visitors alike. Framed by elegant 18th-century buildings and lined with palm trees, Plaza de San Juan de Dios is a great place to start your day. I loved grabbing a coffee here and watching the world go by, with the City Hall and the charming fountains adding to the relaxed Andalusian atmosphere. ⛪ Cádiz Cathedral – Golden Light and Sea Breezes The Catedral de Cádiz is impossible to miss, with its distinctive golden dome shining brightly under the sun. Stepping inside, I was struck by the serene beauty of the interior, which combines baroque and neoclassical elements. “Crossing Europe and Africa by boat” I had the experience that anyone who loves to travel dreams of. From Tarifa, Spain to Tangier, Morocco. We crossed this strait where the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet by ferry. ⸻ 🚢[Ferry used: FRS] ・Fee: 40.25€ per person ・Travel time: about 1 hour ・The terminal departs from the port of Tarifa ・There are tables and a cafe on board, making it a relaxing space What was most impressive was that the Moroccan immigration check was carried out on board. 🇪🇸Serene Setenil🇪🇸 Our last moments in this eccentric little city in Spain. We are Still astounded by what we got to see here, the dwellings and homes built into rocks, no where else in the world you will be able to witness this🏠🪨This is a must see indeed! And the views are just breathtaking, we relaxed a bit and had some refreshments before leaving🤍 While we walked back, we stopped to have coffee at one of the cafes, it was really cozy and the server was friendly, recommended their best coffee and even gave us some biscuits. The scenery on the way back is also so pretty so calm, we sat for a bit on the bench and relaxed. Besides cafes, there are also restaurants and ice cream trucks to get ice cream from. We were really pleased we came to Setenil while staying in this side of Spain, it was such a remarkable town and definitely worth a visit. Such a breathtaking scene it was, the air was fresh up here and the sky so blue you could stare at it forever AND the white houses are just so stunning you’d wish to live in one🥰 Here are some facts about this unique place that surely you MUST visit when in Spain: -Setenil de las Bodegas is one of the white villages of the Sierra de Grazalema in the province of Cádiz, Andalusia, and one of the most beautiful in Spain. the most unique and beautiful villages in Spain by the layout of its houses embedded in the rock. It is a tourist site visited by thousands of curious visitors who do not want to miss this spectacle of nature and urbanism. Today, the symbiosis between the rock and the dwellings can be seen, which are not excavated in the rock, but fill the hollow with a façade, the rock itself being the roof of the building. Fun Fact: "Kiss me in this corner" is one of the most romantic places in Setenil de las Bodegas where couples often stop to save a photo of themselves kissing. This wall can be found in Calle Herrería. Be sure to look for this when you are visiting with your partner. Among the legends of Setenil de las Bodegas, hence its "romanticism", it is said that Queen Isabella the Catholic gave birth to a child during the siege who died a few hours after her birth. 🇪🇸Serene Setenil🇪🇸 As we walk into this little city in the province Cádiz, we are beheld with an absolute wonder of a sight~ white houses and establishments like cafes, restaurants~ built into rocks🪨 This town is most famous for its unusual cave houses built directly underneath the boulders of a deep canyon. This canyon was formed naturally by the water from the creek below, creating this incredible landscape. We have never seen anything quite like it and it was mesmerizing✨ Setenil’s most distinctive feature however, is the town’s large number of cave homes. The whitewashed buildings literally seem to grow out of the mountain or to be physically embedded in the rockface. Many dwellings have a single external wall. The rest of the living quarters will expand underneath the protruding overhang. Dug out of the porous sandstone by enlarging the natural caves that the river created millions of years ago. This innovative design makes Setenil one of the most original villages not only in Spain, but in all Europe. Many establishments here are situated within the caves, providing a one-of-a-kind ambiance. I enjoyed a place called Terracotta for a hot coffee and I also brought a bottle of non filtered olive oil which has an amazing flavor! I highly recommend buying a bottle when you go there. Now THIS is an interesting place to visit. —The Hidden White Village— Setenil forms part of the route of Andalucía’s White Villages. Yet the town has something none of the other Pueblos Blancos possess. Whereas most white villages are on high ground, Setenil is embedded into a narrow river gorge. Approaching from the surrounding mountain plateau, you cannot see any sign of an upcoming town. Like Alberta’s Badlands, the road dips into a crevice, in Setenil’s case created by the Río Trejo and Río Guadalporcún. —-A Perfect Daytrip— Merely 30 minutes drive from Ronda, Setenil is a favourite place for us to take visitors. You can see the entire town in a morning. Timanfaya National Park is a nature reserve located on the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands of Spain, and is characterized by traces of volcanic activity and unique terrain. To protect the nature, the tour cannot be done on foot, and you must take a bus with a guide. You can clearly see traces of volcanic activity. The crater and volcanic ash formed by the volcanic eruption make you feel like you are not on Earth. After the bus tour, you can spray water into the pit to cause a small explosion, showing evidence that the volcano is still active.
