Wales road trip 🚙
#roadtrips
Just wrapped up an unforgettable road trip through Wales, and it exceeded every expectation! We started in Cardiff, exploring the iconic Cardiff Castle (entrance around £14), before hitting the open roads to discover the country’s incredible scenery. Driving through the Brecon Beacons was a highlight—rugged hills, hidden waterfalls, and sheep everywhere you look!
Snowdonia National Park was the next stop. We didn’t have time to hike Snowdon, but the drive alone offered jaw-dropping views. We took a detour to Conwy, a charming town with a medieval castle (entry was about £11). The historic vibe combined with the seaside setting made it magical.
What really stood out about Wales was the peacefulness of the countryside. Every stop felt like a hidden gem, from quiet coastal towns to majestic mountains. Whether you’re into hiking, history, or just soaking up natural beauty, Wales has it all. I can’t wait to go back and explore even more!

Beyond the sea
#summerbankholiday A day trip to Cardiff, the vibrant capital of Wales, offers the perfect mix of history, culture, and natural beauty, making it an ideal destination for a quick yet fulfilling getaway. The day began with a visit to Cardiff Castle, a magnificent fortress with over 2,000 years of history. As we explored the castle’s grand halls, towers, and the beautifully landscaped grounds, it was easy to get lost in the stories of Roman soldiers, Norman invaders, and the Victorian aristocracy who once called this place home. The intricate details of the Gothic Revival architecture, combined with the panoramic views from the castle’s keep, provided a deep sense of Cardiff’s rich past and its significance in Welsh history.
After immersing ourselves in the history of Cardiff Castle, we headed towards Cardiff Bay, the city’s stunning waterfront area where the River Taff meets the Bristol Channel. The bay, once a bustling industrial port, has been transformed into a lively hub of restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions. Walking along the waterfront, we enjoyed the fresh sea breeze and the sight of sailboats gliding across the water. A visit to the strikingly modern Wales Millennium Centre, with its iconic copper dome, added a contemporary contrast to the historic sites we had visited earlier. The combination of Cardiff’s historic castle and its vibrant, rejuvenated bay area made for a perfect day of exploration, showcasing the city’s unique blend of old and new.

Best attraction in Wales?
The most well known and popular attraction in Cardiff and possibly in Wales is Cardiff Castle. Visited by people from all over the world, you'll often here a lot of accents and languages while you're walking the grounds.
Some of this structure dates back to the Roman's and more to the Medieval times but a lot of it was rebuilt in the 1850-1880 for Lord Bute of Cardiff.
There are large grounds to walk, and you can take in the awesome structure around you. The fort surrounded by a moat is very impressive and although a ruin you can still climb to the top and see the views. This is where important prisoners would have been kept.
The main building is lavish and luxurious. With intricate and beautiful details. The Arab room and the library are especially eye catching. This is where the Lord would have lived.
The Castle walls have a lot of WW2 information too as the hallways were used during the war time bombings.

"Discovering the Heart of Wales: A Cardiff Adventure"
As I stepped out onto the bustling streets of Cardiff, the vibrant energy of the city immediately captivated me. From the iconic Cardiff Castle, with its imposing Norman architecture and lush, verdant grounds, to the nearby Bute Park, a verdant urban oasis, there was a sense of history and natural beauty at every turn.
I began my exploration by wandering through the charming Cardiff Central Market, a hub of activity where vendors hawked an enticing array of local produce, artisanal goods, and delectable street food. The aroma of freshly baked Welsh cakes and the lively banter of the stall owners created a truly immersive experience, giving me a glimpse into the heart of the city's community.
Fueled by a savory pastry and a strong cup of Welsh tea, I made my way to the Cardiff Bay waterfront, a sleek, modern development that seamlessly blended the city's industrial past with its vibrant present. I strolled along the scenic barrage, taking in the sweeping views of the Bristol Channel and the iconic Millennium Centre, a dramatic, modern structure that serves as a hub for the performing arts.
As the afternoon wore on, I discovered the city's vibrant cultural scene, visiting the National Museum of History, where I marveled at the stunning collection of ancient Celtic artifacts and learned about Wales' rich heritage. Afterward, I wandered through the lively Cardiff Bay area, popping into independent boutiques, artisanal workshops, and cozy pubs, each offering a unique glimpse into the city's creative spirit.
As the sun began to set, casting a warm glow over the city's landmarks, I found myself drawn to the bustling Cardiff Central train station, a grand, Victorian-era structure that served as a fitting bookend to my day of exploration. With a heart full of newfound appreciation for this dynamic Welsh city, I boarded my train, already planning my next visit to uncover more of Cardiff's captivating charm.

Exploring Cardiff Castle in Wales with my family was like stepping into a fairytale fortress steeped in history and legend. As we crossed the drawbridge and entered the castle grounds, we were greeted by the imposing keep and towering walls that have stood watch over the city for centuries. Inside, we marveled at the opulent interiors adorned with intricate carvings, rich tapestries, and ornate furnishings, each telling a story of medieval grandeur and noble lineage. Climbing to the top of the Norman Keep, we were rewarded with panoramic views of Cardiff's skyline and the lush greenery of Bute Park stretching out below. It was a journey through time, where every corner revealed a new chapter in the castle's storied past and sparked our imaginations with tales of knights and kings.
As we bid farewell to Cardiff Castle, our thoughts turned to our next family adventure: a voyage to the sun-kissed shores of the Amalfi Coast in Italy. There, amidst the rugged cliffs and turquoise waters, we hope to soak in the Mediterranean splendor and indulge in the delights of Italian cuisine and culture. A magical castle in the heart of the city
Cardiff castle is a grade 1 listed building in the heart of downtown Cardiff, one of the fastest growing cities in Europe. The castle is set in the grounds of Bute Park which offers a a peaceful break from the city, with the historical castle offering a beautiful contrast to the modern developments around it.
The original castle was built in the 11th century on top of an old Roman fort, however the castle gained its fame after the work done under the eye of the Marquess of Bute.
The castle has impressive ground with stunning interiors, the high vantage points give amazing views of Cardiff and enable you to see the coast all the way to the mountains.
There is an entrance fee for the Castle grounds, museum and interiors but they are worth it. There are on site cafes and snack bars and plenty of local options within a five minute walk

Amazing weather in Cardiff 🏴#wales #foodie #cardiff
Living in Cardiff really made me appreciate how walkable it is, how bike-friendly it is and how good the public transport is!
Walking: Cardiff City Centre is really easy to walk around as it isn’t that big and if you don’t fancy walking or have difficulties walking, I recommend this Cardiff hop on hop off bus to show you the best Cardiff tourist attractions.
Cycling: Cardiff has recently had OVO bikes installed and as I found out, they are a great way to see the city and there are plenty of cycle lanes in Cardiff.
I recommend hiring a bike to get from Cardiff City Centre to Cardiff Bay and for cycling around Cardiff Bay along the water so you can see much more in a shorter amount of time.
