Capitoline Museum 🇮🇹
#museums
Visiting the Capitoline Museums in Rome was a highlight of my summer vacation in Italy! Located on Capitoline Hill, the entrance fee is around €15, which is a great value for such an extensive collection of art and artifacts.
The museums house incredible treasures like the ancient Roman statues and the famous equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius. I loved wandering through the grand halls and exploring the rich history of Rome. The views from the museums over the city are also stunning.
Afterwards, I enjoyed a stroll through the nearby Piazza del Campidoglio, designed by Michelangelo. The Capitoline Museums are a must-visit for history and art lovers looking to delve into Rome’s fascinating past. 🏛️✨

Brilliant museum
Absolutely glorious! If you love ancient history, antiquities, or the Romans it is an essential visit. As I love all 3, I while away a few happy hours in there. There is a small room but my favourite was the 'room of the Emperors'. The whole place is crammed with history and well laid out. You actually go underground to go from one side to the other & this has ancient stone work signs from the past.
When in Rome it is a must visit. The sculptures are magnificent, such detail and talent. I could spend all day here. The walls have murals all over them in some rooms including the ceiling. Also when you cross over to the second building of the museum you can see a beautiful view of the Roman Forum.

A museum day full of surprises
During the National Day trip to Italy, I unexpectedly enjoyed a wave of benefits in Rome, which is to visit the museum for free, because the first Sunday of each month is the free day of Rome's museum. Although without exception, they all have to queue for one or two hours, but after a day, in addition to the original plan of the Colosseum and St. Peter's Cathedral, an unexpected Capitoline Museum was added, which is considered a burst of luck.

The history of the Capitoline Museums can be traced back to 1471, at that time Pope Sixtus IV donated a precious bronze statue to the people of Rome, which was temporarily stored on Capitoline Hill. It was Michelangelo who carried out the design and renovation of these 3 buildings, as the buildings were completed one by one, donated works were placed in the buildings, as a museum open to the public. Later, Ancient Roman statues, inscriptions, coins, drawings, and other precious objects were continuously collected and were placed on exhibition in the museum. The current building was designed by Michelangelo, and has been in existence for 400 years. The museum is divided into 3 buildings and displays a large quantity of Roman statues, inscriptions, as well as Medieval and Renaissance era gems, coins, paintings, and more. Many of these are priceless treasures. The greatest treasure of the museum is the She-Wolf bronze statue that was made by the Etruscans before the 5th century BCE, and since 1473 has always been kept in the Palazzo dei Conservatori collection. The twins beneath the She-Wolf were added by the Renaissance Italian sculptor Antonio del Pollaiolo, this composite statue has become the symbol of the city of Rome.
