Visiting the Citadel of Saladin in Cairo is like a journey back to the medieval times. Perched on the Mokattam hill, this fortress offers a splendid view of the city. It was established in the 12th century by the order of Sultan Saladin. Inside the citadel, you can visit the Muhammad Ali Mosque, renowned for its high minarets and exquisite design. You can also explore the palace museum and other museums that house archaeological and historical artifacts. Beyond the beauty of Islamic architecture, the citadel is a great place to understand the history of Cairo and enjoy the unique atmosphere where the past and present converge.

Getting There - I got a private driver for the day and he took me to the citadel , funny thing is I had to go there all on my own 😊, it was the most beautiful time there and met a few girls who wanted to take a picture and we sure did . Attractions - Citadel history , views of Coptic Cairo and you get to walk in the most beautiful mosque that has been standing for a very long time . Hotels - I was staying at Al Masa and it was close to the Citadel. Food & Restaurants - You can buy some water and snacks inside the Citadel . I hope that you enjoy your time here , I had the most beautiful experience and the girls coming up to me to take a picture with me was beyond a beautiful moment. I travelled solo to Egypt and I’m beyond happy with my experience.

Citadel is a place that you can’t miss if you are in the city of Cairo. This place is not located in down town, however It can be reached easily by taxi or public transport. The recommended sightseeing time is between one to two hours. It has commanding views of the city, and you can see the Pyramids in the far distance on a decent day. I strongly recommend to visit this place during the day and during the night time, the lights makes the whole place to look stunning. The Cairo Citadel sits on a hill. Although the Citadel is protected with walls, it is still exposed to the elements. This intense winter sand storm spared none of our eyes. The sand and cold biting at us and coating the city in brown fog. Talk about Saharan winds! #happynewyear

Slowly enter the castle area from the long walkway. The Muhammad Ali Mosque is a tall building that cannot be ignored. In many places in Cairo, you can see this standing in this direction. We waited from the afternoon until the evening, and in the moments when the sunset was exhausted, we gave us a beautiful performance. At a distance of 17 kilometers from us, the pyramids are mushrooming like their signature triangles, and the sun just falls on the tip of the spire. If you only have one day to visit Egypt, you can go to these three places

Egypt shocked me on the first day, remember these three check-in spots. 1. The Great Pyramid of Giza, along with the other two pyramids and the Great Sphinx. 2. Saladin Citadel and the Al-Rifa'i Mosque, which is depicted on the 20 Egyptian pound note. 3. Have dinner by the Nile River in the evening and watch the sunset. So beautiful that it's hard to leave, I kept taking photos until closing time, until I was chased out! Haven't transferred the Raw images from my camera, so for now, take a look at the unedited photos from my phone.
