Natural scenery
Bundala National Park, located 10 kilometers east of Hambantota, consists of waterways, ponds and sand dunes. The sand dunes glitter like gold in the evening sun, and the colorful birds use it as a paradise. Bird species here range from small bee-eaters to pincer-billed cranes. This wetland is also undoubtedly recognized by the International Convention on Wetlands, which shows its importance. There are more than 200 species of birds in this 62 square kilometers of land, many of which fly here from August to April from Siberia and Kuchlein, India for the winter, and from September to March. During the month there are many subsequent years to lay eggs and reproduce. There are more than 30 species of mammals and reptiles in the park, and large flamingos are happy to choose this place as their wintering place. The number of elephants in Bundala National Park is small, but they are often seen (depending on the season, the number of elephants is about 25-60). In addition to this, there are civet cats, giant squirrels and many crocodiles in the park. Between October and January, four of the five species of sea turtles in Sri Lanka (olive, green, leatherback, loggerhead) come ashore to lay their eggs, which is especially fun.
