There is also a story that it was founded by Uisang Daesa during the Unified Silla Dynasty by Cheonggeon or Neungin, a disciple of Uisang Daesa.
In 1972, during the construction of dismantling and restoring Geukrakjeon at Bongjeongsa, a record was found in the ridgepole inscription stating that King Gongmin of Goryeo rebuilt Geukrakjeon in 1363, and it was recognized as the best existing wooden building. Geukrakjeon is designated as National Treasure No. 15 and Daeungjeon is designated as National Treasure No. 311.
In Seoam, there is a signboard with the words, “Dokpo Dodok,” and in the Daeungjeon of Geungnakjeon, the Tripitaka Koreana woodblocks are stored.
It is said that the memorial service for Queen Elizabeth II of England, who visited Bongjeongsa Temple, has been held for the second year.
