Built in the same period as the nearby main mosque (1399-1405), the mausoleum is also named in honor of Timur's original wife, Sarai Mulk Khanum. It is generally believed that the mausoleum was not only the shrine of Sarai Mulk Hanum, but also the burial place of other female members of the royal family. Beneath the pointed dome is a cross-shaped planar structure, which is located within an octahedral structure. The mausoleum's brick walls are decorated with ornate tile patterns.
